Looking for work as a Recreation Aide?

We are hiring for casual Recreation Aide positions at Harmony Court our Burnaby location.

Reporting to the Recreation Manager, this position is responsible to provide socialization to the residents in a manner that meets their individual needs; whilst maintaining their respect and dignity. In conjunction with the Recreation Manager, this position will also be responsible for resident assessments, therapeutic programs and outcome measurement.

Education
  • Must hold a Recreation Education Certification
  • Valid Class IV license
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Comply with all employment requirements as detailed in the Simpe Q hiring package and Licensing guidelines
  • Completion of FoodSafe course
Responsibilities
  • Promote and maintain an atmosphere of Wexford Creek and a home-like environment.
  • Maintenance and upgrading of immunizations.
  • Commitment to providing the highest quality service.

  • Socialization to residents in a manner which meets the individual needs of each resident; while maintaining (valuing) their respect and dignity.
  • Work with the Recreation Manager to plan, organize and coordinate programs appropriate for the resident needs on your floor.
  • Knowledge of activity calendar creation.
  • Coordinate with the Recreation Manager to maintain the department budget when arranging programs / entertainers / outings etc.
  • Work with the Recreation Manager to ensure that resident assessments are completed and kept up to date.
  • Assist in the creation of individual therapeutic programs for which an outcome can be monitored and measured.
  • Help create a pleasant mealtime experience.
  • Stewardship of resident and facility property.
  • Assist with mobility program as required.
  • Aware of personal safety and right to refuse unsafe work.
  • Encourage the involvement of families and friends of residents in the lives of the resident.
  • Provide support, encouragement and guidance of the volunteers.
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Manager.

Resident Safety
  • Perform all duties in a manner in which client safety is the focus.
  • Report any unsafe activities that may cause harm or injury to a client.
  • Educate other co-workers / colleagues on the proper safety techniques when there is a possibility of endangering a client.
  • Observe and correct any unsafe behavior demonstrated by client.
Physical Demands
  • Job requires a significant amount of sitting, standing, reaching, walking, lifting and walking (according to the National Occupational Classification (NOC) Definitions, this job is considered "Medium").
  • Lifting 50lbs maximum.
  • Frequently lifting and / or carrying objects up to 20lbs.
  • May involve sitting with pushing and pulling or arm and / or leg controls.
  • Must be able to handle stressful situations in the workplace.
