Overview

Hazardous Materials/Indoor Environmental Quality — St. Catharines, ON

Today is the day to boost your career! Pinchin is seeking a Project Technologist to join our Hazardous Materials and Indoor Environmental Quality team in our St. Catharines Office. Reporting to the Team Lead, the Project Technologist will perform comprehensive building materials assessments for hazardous materials and conduct workplace site reviews, air monitoring and sample analysis during hazardous materials abatement work. You will prepare technical reports, assist in the development of health and safety documentation, and liaise with clients to ensure their needs and goals are met. Responsibilities
  • Complete assessments of buildings for designated substances (asbestos, lead, mercury, silica, etc.) and other hazardous materials such as mould and IAQ and industrial hygiene assessments.
  • Conduct interviews with clients regarding building history and site-specific client concerns
  • Perform inspections and evaluate building systems
  • Assess building damages related to floods, water losses, smoke and fire
  • Assist clients following flood and loss emergencies to get buildings dried, cleaned or remediated and operational
  • Collect mould and bacteria samples
  • Identify and sample suspect asbestos, lead and PCB-containing materials
  • Record the type, quantity and location of specific building materials/equipment
  • Collect bulk, wipe and air samples for laboratory analysis
  • Interpret sample results in relation to legislative requirements and industry accepted guidelines
  • Prepare detailed reports and drawings documenting findings and provide recommendations to address hazardous materials concerns
  • Inspect abatement and restoration contractors undertaking mould, asbestos and other hazardous materials remediation work to document that the work has been properly completed
  • Collect and analyze Phase Contract Microscope (PCM) asbestos air samples
  • Liaise between clients, contractors and Pinchin Project Managers
  • Develop and maintain positive client relationships
  • Maintain and enhance quality control within the group by ensuring accuracy in reporting and sample collection
What You Bring To The Pinchin Team
  • College diploma in Environmental, Construction or Architectural Technology, or Bachelor of Science or Applied Science in Engineering or equivalent is preferred
  • Experience with building construction or maintenance is preferred
  • Strong experience with AutoCAD preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Self-directed and mature
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Must be able to read technical specifications, drawings and reports
  • Valid driver’s license, insurance and a personal vehicle required
  • Availability to travel to clients’ sites (short-term work-related travel)
  • Availability to work outside of core business hours
  • Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends
