Job Summary

The Project Manager oversees all phases of civil construction projects—from tendering through to final closeout. This role ensures projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to quality and safety standards. The Project Manager collaborates closely with the Estimating and Operations teams, managing project costs, schedules, site activities, and client communications. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment and is experienced in heavy civil works including gravel and asphalt placement, underground utilities, and concrete infrastructure.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Plan, schedule, and coordinate site activities to ensure timely execution of all project phases.
  2. Manage construction budgets, monitor costs, and perform job costing analysis.
  3. Lead contract administration, including risk assessments, scope changes, and claim evaluations.
  4. Communicate regularly with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers to maintain strong working relationships.
  5. Represent the company at site meetings and act as the primary point of contact for all project-related inquiries.
  6. Review construction drawings and specifications to ensure scope alignment and compliance.
  7. Issue change orders, track extras, and manage deviations from the original budget.
  8. Complete administrative documentation including purchase orders, progress reports, invoicing, and timesheets.
  9. Prepare monthly look-ahead schedules and maintain short-term work plans for active projects.
  10. Conduct safety orientations, monitor job site safety, lead safety meetings, and report metrics to clients.
  11. Oversee subcontractor performance and ensure compliance with quality, safety, and contractual obligations.
  12. Verify field quantities for progress billing and month-end reporting.
  13. Monitor quality control test data and initiate retesting as required.
  14. Ensure timely completion of project closeout documentation and turnover requirements.
  15. Uphold company values and ethical standards in all aspects of the role.
  16. Perform additional duties as assigned in support of project and business success.
Qualifications

Education, Training, Diplomas and Certifications
• Post-secondary diploma or degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, or related field.
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.

Work Experience
• Minimum 3-5 years of experience in civil construction required.

Technical Skills
• Proficient in reading and interpreting construction drawings, specs, and contracts.
• Strong skills in cost control, quantity tracking, and labor/material estimating.
• Working knowledge of construction equipment, materials, and field practices.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Experience with project scheduling software (e.g., Microsoft Project or Primavera).
• Familiarity with construction software such as HeavyJob, HeavyBid, JD Edwards, or similar.
• Effective planning, delegation, and leadership abilities.
• Strong time management and critical thinking skills.
• Commitment to enforcing safety and company policies.

Working Conditions

• Physical ability to lift and carry up to 10 lbs regularly and move across job sites.
• Use of PPE required at all times on site.
• Travel to various job sites required; must adhere to all driving laws and vehicle policies.
• Must comply with company’s drug & alcohol policy and all safety regulations.
