Job description

JDS is seeking a motivated and highly organized Project Engineer to join our Environment and Reclamation division. The ideal candidate will have a background in engineering and project coordination within the mining and/or environmental remediation sectors. This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment and contribute to projects that prioritize sustainability, collaboration, and community partnership.

The work schedule will include a mix of standard 40‑hour office work weeks, with occasional travel for site visits, project‑related workshops, and on‑site coordination during field programs in various locations.

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with environmental and engineering consultants to advance design and study work.
  • Attend coordination and review meetings with the project team.
  • Review constructability of designs.
  • Prepare and contribute to technical memos and reports, within areas of expertise.
  • Support development of permit applications and stakeholder engagement plans.
  • Develop CAPEX and OPEX estimates for mine closure and reclamation projects.
  • Project Coordination / Controls:
    • Drive progress by planning, executing, and monitoring project activities across multiple tasks/phases.
    • Development of RFQs, RFPs, and bid evaluations.
    • Hiring and managing consultants/contractors, reviewing invoices, and negotiating contracts.
    • Requesting Purchase Orders from Accounts Payable.
    • Planning site programs and supporting their execution through coordination and procurement. Examples of site programs include drilling programs, environmental monitoring, and infrastructure upgrades/maintenance.
    • Management of technical and environmental desktop scopes.
    • Budget development, change management, and cost tracking and reporting.
    • Developing and utilizing change management tools such as change notices, change orders, RFIs, from both the owner and consultant / contractor side, ensuring a high level of detail and accuracy.
    • Contributing to and maintaining detailed project schedules.
    • Leading, coordinating, and documenting meetings.
    • General Administration (organization and filing of project documentation, including proposals, quotes, purchase orders, invoices, reports, etc.).
    • Promote a culture of health and safety.
