Position: Production Research Assistant (Permanent, full-time)

Location: 580 Berry St., Winnipeg, Manitoba

Role Summary

Join Bayer CropScience as a Seed Production Research Assistant. This role supports indoor plant breeding operations for our Canola R&D program, offering the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology and a talented team dedicated to creating the best Canola products.

Responsibilities
  • Organize and maintain growth room projects day-to-day, including seeding, tissue sampling, transplanting, self & cross-pollinating, harvesting, and threshing.
  • Care for plants and ensure growth rooms are well-maintained.
  • Spot and report issues with the facility or plants (e.g., pest or disease control needs).
  • Use herbicides or other chemicals under supervision, following company policies.
  • Maintain detailed records, manage chemical applications, and achieve technical goals efficiently.
  • Keep the workplace tidy and organized.
  • Supervise and train temporary staff when needed.
  • Collaborate with other researchers to implement process improvements.
  • Assist with data collection, document creation, and process reviews related to tasks.
  • Follow all Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE), Quality Management System (QMS), and Compliance programs at Bayer.
  • Take on additional duties as required and contribute to other projects.
Qualifications
  • Degree or diploma in agricultural/biological science or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Comfort with the physical aspects of watering and caring for plants and maintaining growth rooms.
  • Willingness to work in varying temperature conditions (cool or warm).
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Availability to work overtime during the week and on weekends when needed.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Self-motivated and results-driven, whether working solo or as part of a team.
  • Adaptable and eager to learn new procedures.
  • Effective English communication (written and verbal).
  • Ability to explain complex ideas clearly and concisely.
  • Technical proficiency with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Bonus Points If You Have
  • Previous experience in Canola and/or plant breeding.
  • Knowledge of crop production or growth room methods.
  • Experience in hybrid crop research and development.
  • Willingness to obtain a pesticide applicator license.
