Job description
Overview

What you'll do

Ready to design the tools that millions of Canadians reach for in their garages, sheds, and gardens? We're looking for a creative Industrial Designer to join our high-energy Seasonal & Garden team, where your designs directly impact how people tackle their outdoor projects, from weekend warriors to professional landscapers.

You'll be the creative force behind an incredibly diverse product portfolio spanning our powerhouse brands - Mastercraft, Yardworks, Woods, PWR POD, and Golfgreen. One day you might 3D print models to refine the ergonomics of a 48V chainsaw, the next you could be reimagining condo gardening solutions by mapping user journeys and identifying pain points, or diving deep into Canadian Tire sales data to uncover opportunities for next-generation snow shovels that give us a competitive edge. This isn’t your typical design role - you'll combine sales analytics with user testing to validate designs, learn from cross-functional departments, and collaborate with overseas manufacturing partners to bring your visions to life. You'll develop into a master of consumer product design and retail strategy.

Design Across Diverse Product Categories: including but not limited to power tools (48V / 20V chainsaws, snow blowers, lawn mowers), hand tools (rakes, pruners, weeders), seasonal products (snow removal, pool accessories, gardening gloves), and garden systems (trellises, planters, grow lights).

Lead Designer for the Assortment: Your team will comprise engineers who will help bring your visions to life. You will have ample control over design direction.

Lead across multiple products: The goal is to give you variety in products and to feel proud of all the products you’re launching. We will aim to grow your scope of products to lead millions of annual revenue dollars of product per year.

Process Forward: The team is always evolving with new ways of operating and always willing to try new ways of working. We encourage creative new ways of approaching our work.

Design & Innovate: Create compelling, user-centered products using Adobe Creative Suite while identifying customer pain points and user journey opportunities to drive meaningful product improvements.

Data-Driven Decisions: Analyze sales performance and market trends to guide product strategy. This will involve ample analysis through sales data, and research into the latest trends and positioning of competitors.

Cross-Functional Leadership: Navigate complex projects involving Engineering, QA, Packaging, Program Management, Legal, and international vendors.

Business Partnership: Present to stakeholders, manage project budgets, and balance design vision with commercial realities.

End-to-End Ownership: Take products from initial concept through manufacturing launch.

Growth & Impact: This role offers exceptional exposure across our entire business ecosystem. You'll gain invaluable experience in cost management, vendor relations, regulatory compliance, and market positioning while building a portfolio of products sold across Canada\'s largest retail network. To accelerate your professional development, we provide $2,000 in annual education credits for courses, certifications, or training that advance your career.

  • Proven experience with human-centered design approach and design research methodologies
  • Understanding of basic hardgoods production processes and materials
  • Comfortable presenting design concepts to cross-functional teams and stakeholders
  • Outstanding ability to translate business requirements into clear design specifications and direction
  • Proven ability to succeed with minimal supervision while delivering quality results
  • Action-oriented mindset with deep focus on end-user needs and market demands
