The technician is responsible for performing inspections, diagnostics, repairs, precision tune ups, and clean‑up of residential and commercial HVAC systems and equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assess the condition of HVAC systems and equipment at the customer’s site to determine if the equipment is in safe working order
- Read and interpret error codes on furnaces; determine/recommend course of action
- Complete diagnostic worksheets
- Prepare work order with recommendations to present to customer
- Perform inspection and precision tune‑up of equipment with care and detect any areas in need of further servicing
- Test units when appliance clean up is complete and identify any issues with equipment
- Review findings with customer; provide recommendations on how customer can improve home comfort and energy savings with HVAC upgrades
- Prepare bill statements for customer and ensure sign off and collection of payment for completed jobs
- Ensure Gas Codes are followed at all times
- Safe handling and transportation of hazardous materials such as natural gas/propane, refrigerants, and cleaning solutions
- Take and manage services calls and determine appropriate course of action
- Prepare accurate and timely PTU reports and time sheets
- Much of the work is performed independently so a focus on safety (both personal and the customer’s) is important
- Other duties as assigned by the Manager
Education and Qualifications
- Minimum of Grade 12 education or equivalent in education and/or experience preferred
- Current Ontario College of Trades membership
- Must possess a Gas 3 Technician License
- Must have clean driving record with valid/current driver’s license and insurance
- First Aid, CPR, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, Ozone Depletion Prevention, and WHIMIS training are an asset
- Highly attentive to details, easily detect errors and quick problem solver
