Overview

SMH is seeking its next President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Reporting to a volunteer Board of Directors, the CEO holds accountability for the organization and operational management of the Hospital in accordance with policies established by the Board. The CEO’s strategic leadership and oversight of the financial, operational and human resources of the Hospital ensures the achievement of strategic goals and objectives, advancing the interests of the Hospital while contributing to the continuous improvement of the broader healthcare system. SMH will benefit from strong governance and an effective Board/CEO partnership during a period of change and growth.

Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership and overall management of the Hospital in alignment with Board policies.
  • Oversee financial, operational and human resources to achieve the Hospital’s strategic goals and improve the broader healthcare system.
  • Guide the Ministry of Health approved new Hospital facility build through to completion by 2029.
  • Foster a culture of performance excellence, engage with a diverse group of stakeholders, and maintain high standards of patient-centered care.
  • Build and develop teams, communicate effectively, and act as a trusted partner to patients, families, physicians and community partners.
  • Represent the Hospital in governance and external relations to support sustainable growth and community health needs.
Qualifications
  • Credible, highly respected systems thinker with executive-level experience in a dynamic healthcare environment (e.g., CEO, CNE, VP).
  • Champion of change with ability to lead in times of unprecedented change and pressure within the health system.
  • Values-based, inspiring people leader with strong communication and relationship-building skills and a commitment to quality patient-centered care.
  • Experience serving on or reporting to Boards and/or committees, and understanding the value of sound governance and a positive Board/CEO partnership.
