Overview

HERD – the leader in front-end collision protection – is committed to producing the highest quality of leading-edge products for our customers.

We are looking for a reliable and detail-focused Prep & Priming Technician to join our Production Team. In this role, you'll play a critical part in preparing our steel components for coating - with a strong focus on sandblasting to ensure a clean, consistent surface that meets HERD’s high quality standards.

Position: Prep & Priming Technician
Location: 2168 Springfield Road (no bus routes)
Role Type: Full-time, Evening Shift: Monday to Friday, 3:30 PM - 11:30 PM
Starting Wage: $17.00/hour + $1 Premium

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare steel components for coating through cleaning and sandblasting.
  • Apply black primer to brackets, hardware, and other parts with consistent coverage.
  • Maintain spray guns and blasting equipment according to SOPs.
  • Perform visual inspections to ensure coating quality and consistency.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and notify maintenance as needed.
  • Track coating parameters and production data accurately.
  • Follow all safety protocols, including proper PPE and hazardous materials handling.
  • Support 5S, continuous improvement, and team development initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Experience in sandblasting, coatings, manufacturing, or surface preparation is an asset.
  • Ability to lift and maneuver up to 50 lbs. safely and consistently.
  • Ability to wear a full face fresh air helmet for the duration of the shift/consistently.
  • Strong attention to detail, quality, and safety standards.
  • Comfortable working with spray equipment, power tools, and blasting systems.
  • A team-oriented mindset with solid communication skills.
  • Willingness to participate in training and cross-functional improvement efforts.
