Position Overview

We are seeking women interested in training for a career as a Power Line Technician. All training is fully paid.

Program Details
  • 6‑month fully paid program designed to provide on‑the‑job training and academic upgrading to meet the minimum requirements to qualify for the 4‑Year Power Line Technician Apprenticeship Program.
  • Stationed at various locations throughout the province during the paid training.
  • While there is no guarantee of ongoing employment at completion, successful trainees will be considered for the apprenticeship program.

Responsibilities
  • Construct, maintain, and repair electrical power transmission and distribution systems.
  • Build and maintain wood poles and steel structures, operate switches, transformers, and associated electrical equipment.
  • Install pad—mounted equipment, underground high‑voltage and low‑voltage power cables.
  • Splice and terminate high‑voltage power cables.
  • Connect and maintain overhead and underground transformers, distribution centres, and locate underground power cables.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to maintaining a safe working environment and follow all safety protocols and Safe Work Procedures.
Qualifications
  • High school graduate.
  • Possess a valid Province of Manitoba Class 5 Driver's Licence (intermediate or full).
  • Willing to work in all types of weather.
  • Willing to work at heights, in trenches, excavations, and confined spaces.
  • Capable of learning proper climbing techniques.
  • Maintain a level of physical fitness and mental alertness appropriate for the duties.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Physical coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects from a variety of positions.
  • Able to work as a member of a team and adapt to changing tasks and locations.
  • Have good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Able to work autonomously and make decisions in stressful situations.
  • Have basic computer skills.

  • High school and any post‑secondary school transcripts or training certificates.
  • Completed mandatory Qualtrics questionnaire.
Assessment Process

As part of the selection process, candidates will write standardized aptitude tests, participate in a 1‑day pre‑employment skills assessment and trade orientation session, and undergo a job‑related physical assessment. Candidates selected for this session will be required to provide a current driver’s abstract.
