Qualifications

Power Engineer / Building Automation

Appointment Type: Full‑time Continuing Position | Hours: 40 hrs/week | Working Days: Full‑time Continuing.

About the Position

Lethbridge Polytechnic is seeking an experienced individual for the position of Power Engineer/Building Automation. This role is integral in ensuring a safe, efficient, and well‑maintained environment for students and employees. The main responsibilities are to ensure proper maintenance of all building HVAC equipment and systems including boilers, air handling units, pumps, etc., and to operate and maintain the building automation controls system.

Responsibilities
  • Heating plant daily inspections, including water test and chemical additions to boiler systems and closed loops, inspection and adjustment of related mechanical equipment, record all pertinent information, and respond to heating, ventilation, and air conditioning calls.
  • Operate the Building Automation Controls systems on campus: monitor equipment, diagnose controls problems, adjust field components, make software changes, operate the BMS controls station, conduct daily checks, identify abnormal situations, enter time schedules, address heating, cooling, and odor complaints, and participate in design and operation meetings.
  • Perform scheduled/preventive maintenance on all equipment: filter changes, belt replacements, VFD changeouts, pump repairs, bearing replacements, boiler servicing during shutdown periods such as tube cleaning, refractory repair, control checks, safety device replacements.
  • Assist other mechanical trades staff and material handling.
  • Participate in the on‑call rotation.
Required Qualifications
  • Journeyman Plumber or Journeyman Electrician certificate.
  • Minimum 5th Class Power Engineer Certificate.
Experience
  • At least 5 years of experience in mechanical operations, with a strong background in electrical, HVAC, and controls.
Computer Skills

Proficiency with Windows‑based systems and the Microsoft Office suite.

License

Unrestricted Class 5 driver’s license.

Salary

AUPE Class Level 11 Step 1; starting from $64,985.12 to $76,870.35 per annum.
