Postdoctoral Research Fellow – Digital Emergency Medicine

Digital Emergency Medicine invites applications from highly qualified candidates for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position. The successful candidate will contribute to multi‑year research on economic evaluation of virtual care services and usage of digital health technologies for patient care. The research seeks to evaluate how technology‑enabled health services can improve access to healthcare.

Responsibilities
  • Designing and developing research plans and conducting analysis
  • Organizing and structuring research protocols appropriate to research proposal aims and objectives, in consultation with the PI, investigators, project advisors and collaborators
  • Adhering to confidentiality requirements, procedures and policies
  • Overseeing study participant recruitment, informed consent workflows, data collection and data management (labeling, storage, retrieval)
  • Coordinating analytical workflows and ensuring method validation and documentation.
  • Working with investigative teams and collaborators to develop and conduct assessments and analyses
  • Leading and organizing internal research team meetings (agendas, decisions, action items) including meeting with funders and other stakeholders.
  • Communicating with collaborators regarding program matters including update on findings
  • Preparing briefing notes for investigators, interim reports for funders, and slide decks for policy‑makers and other audiences
  • Contributing to final reports and plain‑language summaries.
  • Developing and maintaining study/methodological documentation
  • Building and supporting relationships with partner organizations
  • Facilitating engagement and knowledge synthesis activities
  • Designing materials and/or planning events for dissemination of findings
  • Writing manuscripts
  • Collaborating with other members of Digital Emergency Medicine, public health stakeholders, and other partners, as applicable
  • Participating in team meetings and contributing to research communities of practice
  • Troubleshooting and problem solving, as necessary
  • Other duties as applicable.
Qualifications
  • To be appointed to a UBC Postdoctoral Research Fellow position, a candidate must be within five (5) years of being awarded the Ph.D. degree or ten (10) years of being awarded the MD or DDS degree. Candidate must have completed a graduate degree in a related area (economics, epidemiology, health or data sciences).
  • Experience working with government, regulatory body, health care organization or industry in an area related to economic evaluation would be an asset. We seek candidates with a commitment to multidisciplinary, equity‑informing and collaborative research.
  • Candidates with an established record of excellent and innovative research in health economics as well as experience or interest in emergency and primary care services and the economics of digital/virtual care as interventions are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong scientific writing in explanatory and procedural styles for diverse audiences
  • A track record of peer‑reviewed publications and other knowledge translation activities
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, research, project management and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Demonstrated initiative, judgment, discretion and problem‑solving ability
  • Excellent ability to work effectively independently and in a team
  • Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own.
