Description

Schedule: 24 hour/week position, three 8-hour days

MaineHealth Orthopedics - Trauma & Fracture Care is seeking a PA or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner to join a dynamic and growing Orthopedic practice in Portland, Maine. The successful candidate will provide medical care and practice medicine under physician supervision, including conducting examinations and writing prescriptions through office-based evaluation and treatment of outpatients. In addition to outpatient duties, this position supports in the operating room, inpatient setting, and Orthopedic Trauma call, specifically supporting the Orthopedic Trauma service. All duties are performed in accordance with standards set by Maine Medical Center, the State of Maine, and the NCCPA.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree and successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program. (PA or FNP with Acute Care Certification needed to see pediatric patients)
  • License/Certifications: Current Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner license issued by Maine or eligible for licensure. NCCPA certification.
  • Current BLS required.
  • Experience: Orthopedic experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of the medical model, roles of physicians and PAs/NPs, anatomy, pharmacology, pathophysiology, clinical medicine, and physical diagnosis.
  • Knowledge of indications for and techniques for office procedures, patient assessment, medical histories, physicals, health evaluation, and care compliance.
  • Ability to diagnose and treat medical problems, develop care plans, and evaluate patient problems accurately in person or via phone.
  • Ability to make responsible decisions within scope of practice.
  • Effective collaboration with physicians.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
