Overview

The Physician Assistant (PA) is a healthcare provider who works under the supervision of a licensed physician. The PA supports the physician in medical decision-making, with all activities conducted within the physician-patient relationship. The goal of PAs is to provide healthcare services by establishing a partnership of trust with the supervising physician, which is extended to the patients. Under supervision, PAs treat illnesses, guide recovery, advise on healthier choices, and educate on disease prevention.

Primary Responsibilities

PAs are skilled providers working as part of a physician-led team in various clinical settings. They handle medical emergencies, specialized care, and everyday healthcare needs. Activities may include:

  • Conducting patient interviews
  • Taking patient histories
  • Completing physical examinations
  • Performing diagnostic and therapeutic interventions
  • Ordering and interpreting lab and radiological results
  • Counseling on preventive health care
  • Other tasks within the physician's scope of practice as deemed qualified

PAs are unregulated practitioners working under delegation by a physician, within the neurology division, conducting initial assessments and triaging outpatient clinic patients.

Education

  • Undergraduate degree in a health-related field required
  • Completion of a recognized Physician Assistant program and passing the Physician Assistant exam required
  • Current BLS certification required
