Job description
Overview

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary Part-Time Phlebotomist (Donor Care Associate) to join our dynamic Donor Centre team. The Donor Centre team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by collecting donor blood in a safe manner to enable safe products which save lives every day. In this role, you will perform phlebotomy in the collection process in accordance with health and safety standards. You will work face-to-face with our donors, team members and volunteers providing them with safe and quality service during each stage of the collection process.

Location and schedule details are provided in the job posting. Employment status is temporary part-time with an anticipated start date of 2025-11-19 and end date of 2026-07-30. Possible schedule/FTE: 0.7. Classification: CUPE 1846 - CAL. Salary/Rate of pay: $23.81.

Responsibilities
  • Leverage superb people skills and the ability to communicate effectively with donors to conduct registration and confidential screening to determine eligibility and build a positive donor experience.
  • Utilize excellent customer service skills to monitor donors for safety and comfort, provide post-donation care and respect donor privacy.
  • Ensure safe processing and handling of blood products by following procedures and health and safety standards.
  • Work with others to assist in the collection of whole blood and apheresis blood components which save lives daily.
  • Assist at mobile events within communities by setting up booths, tables, and other equipment to ensure donor clinics are properly prepared for use.
Required education and skills
  • Completion of high school.
  • Completion of accredited training program in phlebotomy.
  • Minimum one-year related experience.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new systems; knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook is an asset.
  • A second language is considered an asset to support a positive donor experience.

What you can expect
  • Shifts/hours will vary. You must be flexible to accommodate assigned shifts based on operational needs; shifts may include days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
  • Travel will be required for mobile events in our communities; occasional overnight stays may be needed in Medicine Hat. Transportation and accommodations will be provided by Canadian Blood Services.
  • Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 10 kg (22 lbs).
