Job summary

A community health organization in Hamilton is seeking dedicated Personal Support Workers to provide care for clients transitioning to independent living. Candidates must hold a PSW certificate and have practical experience in support services. This role includes administering medications and assisting with personal care. Qualifications

This opportunity is with our Good Shepherd - Assisted Living/Personal Support Services.

How You Will Make An Impact

Good Shepherd is seeking experienced Personal Support Workers for our Senior Assisted Living Supportive Housing Program. This program provides care to clients who will be moving from hospital to community living independently. PSWs will be required to provide care to clients who are marginalized individuals who may require ongoing medical care and personal support services.

  • Provide support and assistance to individuals in their daily activities
  • Assist with personal care tasks, such as bathing, grooming, and dressing
  • Administer medications according to prescribed instructions
  • Help with meal preparation and feeding
  • Perform light housekeeping duties, including laundry and tidying up
  • Assist with transportation to appointments or outings
  • Provide companionship and emotional support to individuals
  • Monitor and report any changes in the individual\'s condition or behavior
  • Administrative work, such as documentation and other duties
  • Observe all health and safety rules and work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations
What You\'ll Bring To Our Team
  • PSW certificate, in good standing from an approved and recognized institution and currently authorized to practice in the Province of Ontario
  • Minimum of 1 year\'s practical experience
  • Current CPR and First Aid certificate is required
  • Experience working with individuals in the end of life or with a life limiting illness
  • Good judgment, problem-solving and assessment skills
  • Enhanced training in palliative/end of life care, such as Fundamentals in Hospice Palliative Care considered an asset
  • Excellent attendance record
  • Ability to speak French and/or other languages considered an asset
  • Excellent resident to staff ratio that allows for exceptional resident care
  • A respectful and rewarding work environment with ongoing opportunities to grow and learn.

  • Fluency in a language in addition to English is an asset
