Paving Labourer
Key Information
  • We are seeking a dependable Asphalt Laborer to join our paving crew. The ideal candidate has experience working on asphalt crews, is physically capable of handling the demands of the job and works well in a team environment to help deliver quality finished projects.
  • Employment: Seasonal
  • Hours: Project dependent
  • Must be willing to work evenings/nights and weekends on various schedules.
  • Hourly rate is dependent on experience.

Job Description
  • Handle and distribute construction materials (e.g. load and unload vehicles with supplies, equipment and construction materials; move tools, equipment and construction materials to and from work areas.
  • Work on a wide variety of buildings, structures and premises including municipal sewer and water mains, roads, dams and bridges, tunnels, railways and canals.
  • Remove rubble and other debris.
  • Operate pneumatic hammers, vibrators and tampers as directed.
  • Dig ditches and trenches using shovels and other hand tools.
  • Assemble and dismantle scaffolding, ramps, catwalks, shoring and barricades at construction sites.
  • Prepare and clean up construction sites, move materials and equipment, and perform demolition, excavation and compaction activities.

  • Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust, grease, fumes, odors, oil, asphalt, and toxic and flammable substances.
  • Required to perform tasks that involve heavy lifting, bending, crouching, and kneeling.
  • Use of sunscreen, long sleeves, and appropriate headgear is recommended.

Experience and Certification Requirements
  • Must have 1 to 2 years of industrial or civil construction or equivalent experience.
  • Must be able handle and distribute construction materials to and from work areas.
  • CSTS 2020, WHMIS 2015, and ground disturbance 201 are required.
  • A valid class 5 or better driver's license is required.
  • A driver's abstract is required and must be obtained no more than 30 days prior to employment start date.
  • You have experience in using compactors, and trampers. (jumping jack)
  • Ability to work a minimum 12-hour day.
  • Must have the ability to work at heights.
  • Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 90 lbs on a regular basis.
  • Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.
  • Must comply with all company policies.
  • Able to work under pressure.
  • You have a safety conscious attitude and able to work with others in a team.
  • A reliable means of transportation is required.
  • Proficient English language skills required.
Education

Completion of high school or equivalent is required.
