Smittys Fine Furniture is a fourth-generation family-owned local furniture store specializing in Canadian-made quality furniture. Our passion is exceptional customer experience in every aspect of our business. For over 75 years Smittys has been a trusted name in home furnishings in Southern Ontario. We value our loyal customer base, as well as our deeply experienced staff, some of whom have been on our team for decades. Our original location was based in Hanover, Ontario and we are currently operating from three locations: Hanover, Kitchener, and Barrie.

About the Position

Rooted in Smittys vision to inspire connections and create warmth in every home, the Sales Consultant ensures that every customer's experience reflects this commitment. The Sales Consultant helps our customers furnish their home, from finding the right accessory to finishing the entire house. We sell a broad selection of quality Canadian-made brands, and an excellent range of contemporary styles for every room; this allows the Sales Consultant to foster relationships with our customers.

Our ideal candidate has strong interpersonal skills, is an expert at building relationships, and has excellent communication skills both in person and online. The ideal candidate is self-motivated to achieve sales targets, but also works comfortably within a small team environment. Our work environment thrives on teamwork because we are not a full commission sales floor, which our customers love. The ideal candidate is focused on providing an outstanding customer experience that we are known for.

This role is part time and weekend hours are required.

Your Primary Responsibilities
  • Engaging and fostering customer relationships through in-store consultations
  • Following up on customer leads from all channels (online, phone, email)
  • Working with customers to customize their order
  • Maintain a pulse on product information including available covers and configurations
  • Participate in training sessions held by product reps
  • Placing orders in our point-of-sale system and maintaining contact with customers for updates on lead times
  • Provide customer post-delivery follow up and ensuring service matters or order changes are attended to promptly
  • An opportunity to participate with in-home selling program (with appropriate training or prior Interior Decorating credentials)
Your Education, Skills, and Experience
  • Degree or Diploma from a recognized university or college in Design, Sales, or a related field
  • Certified Interior Decorator would be considered an asset
  • 3+ years of customer service experience, preferably in a home furniture retail environment
  • Excellent attention to detail and a keen interest in interior decoration is a must
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multitask in a busy retail environment
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to navigate the internet and use computer programs such as Microsoft products (Word, Excel, SharePoint, etc.)
  • Highly driven goal oriented and motivated to achieve sales targets
