Job summary

A local government health service in Timmins seeks a Part-time Clinical Educator to support and mentor clinical staff and develop educational programs. The successful candidate will conduct training sessions for new procedures and oversee continuing education compliance, ensuring high standards in geriatric and long-term care. Responsibilities
  • Support and mentor clinical staff, offering guidance and advice in clinical practice, using evidence-based care.
  • Assist in development of educational programs and materials to deliver to clinical staff.
  • Facilitate training sessions and in-service education programs for clinical staff, covering topics such as new procedures, protocols, equipment, and technologies.
  • Conduct orientation for new hires, familiarizing them with organizational policies, procedures, and clinical practices.
  • Provide constructive feedback and coaching.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Care, develop nursing policies and procedures.
  • Stay up-to-date on current best practice guidelines.
  • Oversee and manage the home’s education software, required education, and staff compliance.
  • Liaise with the multidisciplinary team, residents, family, and physicians to meet the needs of residents.
  • Ensure resident care is provided within established nursing standards and principles, physicians’ orders, and administrative policies; observe, report, and record symptoms and conditions of residents and take appropriate action.
  • Assist in assessing residents and developing, implementing, reviewing, and evaluating resident care plans.
  • Plan, direct, and supervise the work of nursing and personal support workers assigned to care for residents.
  • Administer medication as required.
  • Support a culturally sensitive and resident/family centered approach to care.
  • Complete RAI-MDS reporting.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement (CI) activities as required.
  • Other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree required.
  • Current RN registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Proof of Professional Liability Protection required.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Geriatric and Long-Term Care.
  • C.P.R and First Aid Certificate required.
  • IV therapy and phlebotomy an asset or willing to complete upon hire.
  • Computer literacy with Microsoft Office Suite and Electronic Charting.
  • Understanding of nursing principles and techniques associated with nursing practice.
  • Previous experience with policy and procedure development.
  • Working knowledge of the principles of adult education considered an asset.
  • Previous educatory/management experience considered an asset.
  • Experience working as a clinical educator or nurse consultant considered an asset.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Bilingual in French and English considered an asset.
  • Able to attend and work shifts and weekends as required.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Screen required.
  • Ability to adhere to all infection prevention and control protocols and screening requirements.
