Job summary

A healthcare provider in Metro Vancouver seeks a detail-oriented Ophthalmic Technician to join its clinical team. The role involves conducting patient workups, operating advanced diagnostic equipment, and providing clinical support during eye exams. Candidates should have a High School Diploma and preferably a diploma from an accredited Ophthalmic Technology Program, as well as IJCAHPO certification. Qualifications

  • 1–2 years in an eye care setting preferred.
  • IJCAHPO certification (COA, COT, or COMT) or CCOA strongly preferred.

  • Administer topical eye drops and medications as directed.
  • Perform routine cleaning, calibration, and troubleshooting of instruments.

Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and patient-focused Ophthalmic Technician to join our clinical team. You will support our ophthalmologists by performing specialized diagnostic tests, gathering medical histories, and ensuring a seamless experience for patients undergoing eye exams and surgical consultations.

Responsibilities
  • Patient Workups: Conduct preliminary screenings, including taking medical and ocular histories and measuring visual acuity.
  • Diagnostic Testing: Operate advanced equipment for OCT ( Optical Coherence Tomography ), Visual Fields, Auto-refraction, Topography, and Tonometry.
  • Clinical Support: Administer topical eye drops and medications as directed; assist with minor in-office surgical procedures.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine cleaning, calibration, and troubleshooting of ophthalmic instruments.
  • Patient Education: Provide instructions on diagnostic tests, contact lens care, and post-operative medications.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Education: High School Diploma required; Diploma from an accredited Ophthalmic Technology Program highly preferred.
  • Certification: IJCAHPO certification (COA, COT, or COMT) or CCOA is strongly preferred.
  • Experience: 1–2 years in an eye care setting preferred, though we are willing to train high-potential candidates with a medical office background.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with EMR systems (e.g., Accuro) and medical charting.
