Operations Controller

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Operations Controller to join our Clients growing cabinetry manufacturing company. This key position will oversee critical financial and operational functions across our two distinct business lines: custom cabinetry and homebuilder projects. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, manufacturing industry experience, and the ability to manage multiple accounting and operational responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.

Reporting Structure
  • Reports to: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
  • Indirect reporting: General Manager and VP of Operations
Job Cost Accounting
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive job costing systems for both custom cabinetry and homebuilder projects
  • Track labor, materials, and overhead costs by project and product line
  • Analyze job profitability and provide detailed cost variance reporting
  • Collaborate with production teams to ensure accurate time and material reporting
  • Prepare monthly job cost reports and margin analysis for management review <b>Financial Accounting and Control</b>
  • Maintain accurate general ledger and ensure compliance with ASPE principles
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes
  • Support external review processes and coordinate with CPA firm
  • Manage fixed asset accounting and depreciation calculations
  • Ensure strong internal controls are in place and followed
Payroll Administration
  • Process bi-weekly payroll for all employees across both business lines
  • Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local payroll regulations
  • Maintain payroll records and handle payroll tax filings
  • Coordinate with VP Operations on employee benefit deductions and new hire setup
  • Manage workers’ compensation insurance and related reporting
Purchasing and Accounts Payable
  • Oversee purchasing processes for raw materials and supplies
  • Maintain vendor relationships and negotiate payment terms
  • Process accounts payable and ensure timely payment of invoices
  • Implement and maintain purchase order systems and approval workflows
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with production planning
Billing and Cash Receipts
  • Generate accurate and timely customer invoices for both business lines
  • Manage billing schedules for homebuilder contracts and custom projects
  • Process cash receipts and maintain customer account records
  • Handle collections activities and aging report management
  • Coordinate with sales teams on customer billing requirements and payment Terms
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in manufacturing or construction
  • Strong knowledge of job costing principles and manufacturing accounting
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and advanced Excel skills
  • Experience with payroll processing and tax compliance
  • Knowledge of accounts payable and receivable processes
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA certification or progress toward certification
  • Experience in the cabinetry, woodworking, or construction industry
  • Familiarity with project-based accounting and contract billing
  • Experience with manufacturing cost accounting and inventory management
  • Knowledge of construction industry billing practices

Work Environment

This position is based in our manufacturing facility with a combination of office work and interaction with production teams. The role may require occasional overtime during year-end closing periods and busy production seasons.
