NURSING LABORATORY INSTRUCTOR (BAND LEVEL 10)

Happy Valley-Goose Bay

Faculty of Nursing

(Contractual Sessional Position to April 30, 2027) (8 Months per Annum)

This competition may be used to fill identical positions in this unit within three (3) months of the closing date

Duties
  • Instruct and assist nursing students with practical techniques in laboratory courses for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Collaborative) program at the Happy Valley – Goose Bay Satellite site.
  • Collaborate with the course instructor to design, prepare, and teach labs and experiential learning opportunities; research current evidence-based trends in clinical practice to modify lab topics and supplies as needed.
  • Collaborate with faculty and other lab instructors on content and teaching strategies, including simulation; operate simulation equipment and design lab exercises.
  • Prepare teaching aids; facilitate student learning during lab sessions using a participatory or collaborative approach.
  • Mark and grade lab reports and evaluate student performance; supervise student assistants; provide remedial help as needed.
  • Maintain an adequate inventory of laboratory supplies; ensure smooth implementation of the lab schedule; ensure awareness of and provide training in laboratory policies and procedures, emergency action plans, and safety guidelines.
  • Update and coordinate safety and emergency response plans as needed; coordinate glucometer testing and training; coordinate training for documentation access; support student access and training for other applications required for clinical practice.
  • Supervise classroom course exams and other evaluations; perform other related duties as required. Some evening and weekend hours may be required depending on lab scheduling and student practice needs.
Qualifications
  • Experience (3-5 years) in nursing, including acute care and community settings; undergraduate degree in nursing required, master's degree (preferably in nursing) or equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Certificate of Registration from the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador.
  • Strong computer, problem solving, verbal and written communication skills; ability to work independently and in team environments.
  • Knowledge of current nursing practices and laboratory/maintenance operations; expertise in instruction, assessment, and student learning support; teaching experience in a post-secondary environment is an asset.

SALARY $82,040 - $86,281 per annum (CUPE Local 1615)

An upscale hiring step has been applied to this position (Step 13)

Plus applicable annual Northern Allowance
