A healthcare provider in British Columbia is looking for a General Neurologist to join their team at the University Hospital of Northern British Columbia. This role includes providing consults in both hospital and ambulatory care settings, with opportunities for teaching medical students. Candidates should hold a medical degree and have experience in neurology. The position also offers opportunities to help develop stroke and epilepsy programs, contributing to a growing medical community in Prince George.
The Department of Internal Medicine at the University Hospital of Northern British Columbia is seeking a General Neurologist to join our team. We currently have two full time clinical Neurologists.
In addition to clinical practice (hospital inpatient consults, on-call, and ambulatory care), there are opportunities to become involved in teaching, as we are closely affiliated with the Northern Medical Program (University of British Columbia), based in Prince George.
We have state of the art Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging facilities. We also have an established neuroelectrophysiology lab with experienced technicians who work closely with our two neurologists who currently provide these services, a sub-specialty Memory Clinic, and a sub-specialty Multiple Sclerosis Clinic. There will be opportunities to develop stroke and epilepsy programs.
The University Hospital for Northern British Columbia serves both the immediate population of Prince George (approx. 80,000) and is a referral centre for outlying communities (total population approx. 400,000). It is the main teaching centre for medical students in the Northern Medical Program and provides teaching for University of British Columbia residents in several specialties.
The Department of Internal Medicine currently has 20 members, 13 of whom cover Internal Medicine. There are sub-specialties including Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Infectious Disease, Respirology, Neurology, Dermatology, Rheumatology and Endocrinology. It provides many specialty services including dialysis, endoscopic ultrasound, bronchoscopy, echocardiography (including transesophageal) with potential to develop new services. There is a fully equipped Intensive Care Unit which operates as a Closed Unit for physician staffing and involves many of the Internists. The BC Cancer Centre for the North is situated on the hospital site and includes radiation and medical oncology services. The ongoing development as a regional and teaching centre makes this an exciting time to join the medical community in Prince George.
