Overview
Position : Part-Time (with potential to grow into Full-Time)
Start Date : Immediate
We are a primarily pediatric, neurodiversity-affirming and embracing private practice specializing in 1 : 1 adapted music lessons and music therapy sessions for children, adolescents, and adults who are neurodivergent or who have a variety of developmental and neurological profiles. Services are delivered both at our studio in Thornhill, Ontario, and in clients' homes throughout York Region and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality music therapy sessions and adapted music lessons to clients with a range of learning styles, communication preferences, and support needs
- Be flexible and available to provide coverage for other TPSMTS therapists / teachers when needed
- Use a flexible, eclectic, and client-centered approach tailored to each individual\'s strengths, interests, and goals
- Maintain up-to-date and accurate client progress notes (reviewed weekly by the Director)
- Participate in team meetings, in-service / supervision sessions, and studio events
- Consult with new and existing clients and their families
- Collaborate regularly with families, staff, and the Director
- Assist clients in preparing for our annual "End-of-the-Year Party and Recitals"
- Be available for Saturday sessions (Saturday availability is required)
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor\'s or Master\'s Degree in Music Therapy (including 1000-hour internship)
- Certified Music Therapist (MTA) in good standing
- Member in good standing with the Canadian Association for Music Therapy (CAMT) and Music Therapy Association of Ontario (MTAO)
- Minimum 1 year of experience working with neurodivergent individuals or individuals with diverse cognitive, sensory, or communication needs
- Minimum 1 year of experience teaching music lessons (piano, voice, guitar, etc.)
- Excellent clinical, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Reliable, organized, punctual, and professional, with strong work ethic and initiative
- Self-motivated, adaptable, and open to feedback, able to work independently while exercising sound judgment and problem-solving skills
- Available to work in both studio (Thornhill) and in client homes across York Region and the GTA
- Clear vulnerable sector police check
Preference will be given to candidates who possess the following :
- RCM Grade 8 (or higher) certification in piano and / or equivalent in another instrument
- Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT) Training
- Experience working with neurodivergent individuals or individuals with different communication, motor, or sensory support needs
- Current or qualifying membership with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO)
- Standard First Aid & CPR-C certification
- Valid Ontario G-class driver\'s license with access to a vehicle
