Job summary

A major mining company in Northeastern Ontario is seeking a skilled Millwright to provide mechanical and welding repairs, ensuring compliance with safety procedures. The ideal candidate will have a Red Seal millwright certificate and 5 years of experience in an industrial setting. YOUR NEXT CHALLENGE:

The Millwright will be responsible for providing support to the Mobile Maintenance team by providing efficient, reliable, and safe mechanical and welding repairs while ensuring compliance with all safety and regulatory procedures and acts.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Complete specific work orders, providing sufficient detail for co-workers to acknowledge work completion and/or equipment issues.
  • Provide mechanical expertise and apply advanced analytical and troubleshooting skills to assist operations, maintenance and technical personnel in identifying and solving day-to-day equipment problems.
  • Must be able to read and interpret inside and outside micrometer readings and have a good understanding of measurement techniques and drawing tolerances.
  • Perform structural welding repairs to mining equipment and parts.
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic flame cutting, brazing, and soldering equipment.
  • Safely operate specific units of mobile equipment including small mobile cranes, man lifts and forklifts.
  • Assist in the commissioning of new installations and modifications.
  • Align electric motors and hydraulic pumps.
  • Analyze maintenance procedures and make recommendations to improve safety and effectiveness.
  • Identify, develop and implement continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure that safety issues are reported to supervisor and promptly remedied.
  • Communicate and demonstrate Detour Gold’s mission and values.
  • Promote a positive health, safety and environment culture and the Internal Responsibility System.
  • Understand, promote and live by the five Life Saving Rules.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED
  • Ontario provincial or inter-provincial (Red Seal) millwright trade certificate.
  • 5 years’ related experience in an industrial/mining setting.
  • Additional certification as a welder with the ability to interpret blueprints is an asset.
  • Experience in computer based maintenance system, specifically SAP.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safe working practices.
  • Experience working at a remote work site is an asset.
  • Experience in a cross-cultural work environment.
