A health service provider in Edmonton is seeking a Mental Health Therapist for the Children Youth and Families Addiction and Mental Health team. You will provide assessment, consultation, and treatment for youth with mental health disorders in school and community settings. Ideal candidates will possess a relevant master's degree and experience in mental health interventions. A collaborative approach with families and schools is essential. Your Opportunity: As part of the Children Youth and Families Addiction and Mental Health (CYFAMH) team, you will work with the School Based Team to provide expert consultation and treatment for adolescents with complex mental health disorders in their school, community and home. In this position, your responsibilities will include assessment, consultation, family counselling, behavior management interventions and effective involvement with school stakeholders. You will utilize a variety of treatment modalities in a variety of formats (individual, family, group) for people experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment. This is a school year position. The service is closed July and August and all holidays and breaks (Christmas, Spring Break). The position works on all instructional school days. All scheduled hours of this position fall within the ten (10) month period of the school year in accordance with Letter of Understanding #27 of the Collective Agreement between AHS and HSAA.
As the Mental Health Therapist, you will be required to use a variety of treatment modalities (individual, family, and group) to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.
Mandatory: Master\'s degree in Psychology; or master\'s degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy; or master\'s or bachelor\'s degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; or master\'s degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy, Social Work, Psychology, or Nursing with considerable experience in mental health assessment and intervention. An equivalent level of education and experience will be considered. Registration in a professional regulatory body as defined by the Health Professions Act (CARNA, CRPNA, ACOT, CAP, ACSW). Registered Social Workers must be authorized to perform psychosocial interventions and designation as a Clinical Social Worker is preferred. Provisional status with current registration with CAP will be considered. 3-5 years of direct clinical experience with focus on children, youth and their families, preferably in a community mental health setting. Formal training in therapeutic modalities such as Solution Focused Therapy, CBT, Narrative, Motivational Interviewing, Family Systems, etc. Proficiency with MS Office. Experience in Suicide Risk Management (assessment and intervention). Current CPR certification. Non Violent Crisis Intervention Training.
Previous experience working within school environments. Previous experience working with trauma. Previous experience working with Child and Family Services and/or Multicultural groups, such as community, friendship, or settlement services. Experience with child and adolescent mental health therapeutic interventions such as various family therapies, CBT, Play, EMDR and Solution-Focused Therapy.
