OVERVIEW

Merrick and Company is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the mechanical design of projects as part of a multi‑disciplinary team. This position is located in our Kanata, ON office and requires Canadian citizenship.

Salary range for this position is $87,000.00 – $101,000.00. Base pay may vary depending on knowledge, skills, and experience.

Job Description
  • Participate as part of the mechanical design and multi‑disciplinary project team, executing detailed mechanical, plumbing/process, and controls design of complex mechanical facilities, including life‑science and nuclear facilities:
    • Detailed engineering calculations
    • Production of detailed 3D models and construction drawings
    • Specifications
    • Reports as required
  • Perform site inspection, testing, and commissioning of equipment and facilities as required, including travel within Canada and abroad.
  • Utilize excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with clients and employees.
  • Develop and maintain expert knowledge of applicable codes and standards for the design and construction of nuclear and biocontainment facilities in Canada and internationally.
  • Develop and maintain expert skills in required software packages, including REVIT.
  • Execute all work in accordance with Merrick and project‑specific Quality Assurance procedures.
  • Exercise independent judgement and initiative to complete design tasks.
  • Work independently and in a team environment within Merrick’s hybrid arrangement (office, remote, onsite).
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in mechanical building design for government, academic, and private clients in areas such as HVAC, plumbing/process, fire protection, and controls design.
  • A minimum of five (5) years related experience, preferred eight (8) years.
  • Licensure as a Professional Engineer in Ontario or another Canadian jurisdiction is preferred. If not currently licensed, demonstrate a plan to obtain licensure within two years of joining Merrick, including holding a Mechanical engineering degree accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB).
  • Proficiency in REVIT and AutoCAD.
  • Proficiency in report writing (e.g., basis of design reports, specifications, field reports).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including oral presentation.
  • Effective problem‑solving skills applying mechanical design principals.
  • Ability to travel and possess a current passport; international travel may be required.
  • Client projects require Canadian citizenship.
  • Work at jobsites will be required, including active construction and commissioning, access to elevated areas, functional equipment, and the use of appropriate PPE.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Candidate must possess or obtain Government of Canada Reliability Level security clearance. Level II Secret Clearance is preferred.
