The Mechanical Engineer will lead our engineering services, providing engineering solutions to our diverse customer base. The role will align the team\'s operations with the company\'s strategic goals, driving customer satisfaction, operational efficiency, and growth. The engineer will deliver top-quality technical results, grow the existing business base and contribute to attraction and retention of top talent. This role typically reports directly to the Senior Director, Energy & Sustainability.
Responsibilities
- Support the ESS Team mission of decarbonizing operations by delivering best-in-class engineering services.
- Ensure alignment of internal initiatives and the strategic vision with external service offerings and vice versa.
- Create opportunities for collaboration between Black & McDonald business lines and regions to support business transformation and technical alignment.
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality engineering services that meet or exceed customer expectations. Identify opportunities to enhance service offerings and expand technical capabilities.
- Contribute to business development by providing technical expertise in customer proposals and pitches.
- Support technical sales: oversight of collaboration with vendors and subcontractors, development and maintenance of internal QA/QC processes.
- Demonstrate leadership through technical excellence, motivation and development of new and existing employees.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge on energy engineering and modeling standards, tools and strategies; develop business cases for investment in these standards and tools.
- Collaborate with key individuals at Black & McDonald and external partners to assess emerging technologies as it supports the ESS Strategy.
Competency requirements
- Proven track record of delivering energy and sustainability services, policies and procedures.
- Strong understanding of facilities management and technical services.
- Ability to implement major energy, sustainability and technology projects in dynamic environments.
- Superior leadership and strong communication skills to develop collaborative relationships with a diverse group of constituents.
- Ability to translate goals into operational plans and ensure execution through team collaboration.
- Ability to leverage objectives into project realization while meeting stakeholder expectations.
- Skilled communicator and listener with a holistic approach to corporate goals.
- Curious, creative and insightful leader with strong problem-solving, communication and presentation skills.
- Working knowledge of government and agency incentives for energy and sustainability projects.
- Diverse knowledge and experience with software including MS Office, energy management and monitoring, ASHRAE-compliant energy modelling, RETScreen, BAS, etc.
- Advanced technical expertise in energy engineering, system operations and reporting.
- Advanced knowledge of mechanical and electrical building systems and their impact on total building energy consumption.
