Ultra Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Functions

The Ultra Engineering team manages specialist capabilities, applying electronic, mechanical, and software technologies in demanding environments to meet customer needs.

The Ultra Mechanical Engineering team designs, develops, tests, and documents mechanical assemblies for products, supporting all stages from concept to production.

A professional at this level performs structured work, using established procedures to solve problems with judgment and quality under moderate supervision. The Mechanical Engineer contributes to projects for the Royal Canadian Navy and partners in the Anti-Submarine Warfare domain.

Nationality Requirements

Candidates must be eligible for the relevant security clearance due to the nature of our programs.

Job Description & Responsibilities
  • Develop mechanical designs compliant with requirements across environments through analysis and testing.
  • Create, review, and approve CAD models, assemblies, drawings, and BOMs.
  • Develop documentation to meet project plans.
  • Perform design verification tests measuring key performance parameters.
  • Develop technical specifications and acceptance criteria for subcontracted work.
  • Collaborate with the project team to deliver solutions meeting customer needs, cost, quality, and schedule.
  • Support transition of designs to manufacturing.
  • Assist in cost estimation activities.
  • Ensure activities comply with company processes.
  • Occasional travel within Canada, US, or overseas may be required.
Role Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, detail-oriented.
  • Strong communication skills and positive attitude.
  • Ability to work with Canadian Controlled Goods and US ITAR articles.
  • Capable of obtaining NATO Reliability and Secret security clearance.
Qualifications & Skills
  • 3+ years experience in mechanical systems development; P.Eng or working towards registration.
  • Experience with fabrication methods (machining, molding, welding, forming).
  • Experience in marine and defense sectors.
  • Environmental qualification testing experience.
  • Design and qualification to military standards.
  • Management of suppliers and technical specifications development.
  • Experience transitioning products from design to production.
  • 2+ years using SolidWorks or similar CAD tools.
  • Experience with simulation/FEA tools.
  • Ability to collaborate across disciplines.
  • Strong reasoning and problem documentation skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
