Job description
Overview

The Mozilla Corporation is wholly owned by the non-profit 501(c) Mozilla Foundation. This means we aren’t beholden to any shareholders — only to our mission. Along with thousands of volunteer contributors and collaborators all over the world, Mozillians design, build and distribute open-source software that enables people to enjoy the internet on their terms.

About this team and role:

Mozilla is looking for a manager for the Release Management team to lead the team responsible for coordinating Firefox releases across Desktop, Android, and iOS. In this role, you’ll drive the full release lifecycle - from planning and pre-release validation to post-release analysis - while empowering the teams and leadership with data-driven insights and automation. You will lead a globally distributed team and collaborate with product, engineering, QA, security, and release engineering to ensure that Firefox delivers high-quality experiences to hundreds of millions of users. You’ll play a key role in making our release process faster, more efficient, and user-focused.

What You'll Do
  • Lead and support the release management team overseeing Firefox releases on Desktop, Android, and iOS.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to define and execute pre-release validation strategies, ensuring timely, stable, and secure product releases with comprehensive test coverage, in-depth risk analysis, and proactive issue management before the release.
  • Design and improve metrics, dashboards, and tools that inform decisions, measure quality, and track release health.
  • Develop and implement processes to optimize the release cadence and support phased rollout strategies.
  • Drive automation and operational excellence to scale release activities across platforms.
  • Coordinate across time zones and stakeholders, including volunteers and community contributors.
What You Bring
  • 3+ years of experience managing a team and directly overseeing software release processes in a software development organization.
  • Demonstrated success shipping cross-platform products, ideally across mobile (Android & iOS) and desktop client environments.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience working with metrics, telemetry, and data platforms (e.g., SQL, Looker, Redash, Tableau, custom dashboards, ETL).
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, release tooling, version control systems, and issue tracking systems (Bugzilla, Jira, GitHub).
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, especially in remote and asynchronous settings.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and build alignment across diverse technical teams.
  • Familiarity with Apple App Store / Google Play release processes, and staged rollout best practices.
  • Familiarity with desktop distribution platforms (Windows store, Flatpak/Snap, deb/RPM repositories, etc).
  • Experience in mobile release automation and experimentation frameworks (e.g., A/B testing).
  • Background in open source development or community collaboration.
  • Knowledge of software quality practices, security, performance, and privacy considerations.
  • Commitment to our values: Being relationship-minded, Having grit.
What you’ll get
  • Generous performance-based bonus plans to all eligible employees - we share in our success as one team
  • Rich medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Generous retirement contributions with 100% immediate vesting (regardless of whether you contribute)
  • Quarterly all-company wellness days where everyone takes a pause together
  • Country specific holidays plus a day off for your birthday
  • One-time home office stipend
  • Quarterly well-being stipend
  • Considerable paid parental leave
  • Employee referral bonus program
  • Other benefits (life/AD&D, disability, EAP, etc. - varies by country)
