Job description

Location: Inuvik, NWT

The Inuvialuit Regional Corporation (IRC) is a uniquely positioned Indigenous organization dedicated to enhancing the economic, social, and cultural well‑being of Inuvialuit beneficiaries through the implementation of the historic Inuvialuit Final Agreement (IFA). Established in 1984, IRC operates from its headquarters in Inuvik, Northwest Territories, and represents the collective interests of six Inuvialuit communities. With over 180 employees and a broad mandate spanning land stewardship, investment, economic development, health, education, and cultural preservation, IRC has become a key institution in the western Arctic. Its integrated network of subsidiaries—ranging from land and investment corporations to development and petroleum ventures—underscores a multifaceted commitment to regional empowerment, sustainable growth, and community‑led governance.

The Manager, HR Operations is a pivotal leadership role within IRC’s Human Resources division, reporting to the Director of HR. This position is charged with ensuring operational excellence across all core HR service areas, including HRIS management, data governance, reporting, benefits administration, and employee records. As the lead architect of IRC’s back‑office HR functions, the Manager enables a seamless and client‑focused service experience that aligns with IRC’s strategic priorities and cultural values. With oversight of a team and responsibility for service delivery integration, the Manager will also act as a key escalation point, championing quality assurance and compliance while driving continuous process improvement across the HR function.

The ideal candidate is an experienced HR professional with a proven record of leading operational and administrative HR services within complex, evolving environments. They bring strong expertise in HR technology, process design, and data‑driven decision‑making, complemented by exceptional communication and leadership skills. Strategic in outlook yet detail‑oriented in execution, the successful candidate will model cultural humility, emotional intelligence, and a commitment to fostering inclusive, high‑performing teams. Experience supporting remote workforces and/or northern communities is highly valued, as is a collaborative, service‑oriented mindset attuned to IRC’s mission and mandate.

Based in Inuvik, this role offers the rare opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the wellbeing and self‑determination of the Inuvialuit people, while living and working in one of Canada’s most dynamic and culturally rich northern regions. For candidates drawn to impactful work at the intersection of Indigenous governance, HR excellence, and community development, this position offers both professional fulfillment and personal resonance in a truly distinctive setting.
