We are looking for a Manager, Commercial Accounting to join our Corporate - Finance team in Calgary, AB! Reporting to the Senior Manager, Operations Accounting, this position is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of financial information and analysis for a portfolio of commercial and hotel properties across Canada. This role involves the direct oversight of the commercial property accounting team and requires close collaboration with the Operations team to facilitate business growth.
Responsibilities
- Team and Operational Leadership
- People Management: Manage, coach, and train the commercial and hotel property accounting team to foster a high-performance environment.
- Operational Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact for the Operations team, providing support on property management accounting, financial reviews, and strategic operational analysis.
- Process Improvement: Continuously identify and implement opportunities to enhance the efficiency, effectiveness, and robustness of accounting processes and systems.
- Financial Management and Reporting
- Portfolio Oversight: Oversee the accounting and financial review process for the property portfolio, ensuring the preparation and reporting of accurate results.
- Budgeting & Revenue: Collaborate with Operations to prepare and review comprehensive annual budgets and manage the distribution of annual rental notices to tenants.
- Joint Venture & Board Reporting: Manage joint venture portfolios, including preparing financial statements for external audits and creating professional materials for board meetings.
- Lease Administration: Review commercial leases for accuracy and oversee tenant operating cost recovery activities and management of related inquiries and data.
- Compliance and Auditing
- Internal Controls: Implement, monitor, and enforce corporate accounting policies and internal control procedures to safeguard financial integrity.
- Audit Management: Review detailed audit schedules and serve as the lead contact for internal and external auditors to ensure a seamless compliant process.
Qualifications
- Education: Undergraduate degree in Commerce, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- Designation: A professional accounting designation or working towards (CPA) is considered a strong asset.
- Industry Experience: Prior management experience is essential, preferably within the commercial real estate or property management sectors.
- Technical Proficiency: Fully proficient MS Office skills; experience with Yardi or similar work order management systems is highly preferred.
