Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager Engineering CAPEX & NPI, the Maintenance & Facilities Planner / Scheduler is the hub from which all planned maintenance activity is coordinated for multiple production sites in Southwestern Ontario. This role can be based out of London ON, Cayuga ON or Fenwick ON.

The Maintenance & Facilities Planner / Scheduler is responsible for scheduling preventive and regular maintenance with minimal interruption to production. This role is the principal contact and liaison between Maintenance and Production and other supporting departments regarding the timing for execution of planned maintenance work.

The Maintenance Planner / Scheduler works to ensure that Production units balance their need for daily output with their need for equipment reliability through proactive maintenance practices. The role manages the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and supports other staff in effectively and efficiently utilizing the CMMS; identifies and facilitates improvements to the CMMS performance; and uses reporting and analysis tools to leverage CMMS functionality. This position supports CMMS implementation, enhancement, ongoing functional support, system design, configuration and testing. Incumbents perform complex assignments and specialized tasks; provide technical assistance and training to users; and ensure CMMS procedures are developed, understood and followed consistently throughout the organization. Duties are carried out with considerable independence within established policies and procedures and involve accountability to goals and decision-making responsibilities. The role requires strong organizational, analytical, technical and leadership skills, problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities, independent judgement, interpersonal and people management skills. The Maintenance & Facilities Planner / Scheduler must be able to provide direction, lead and work in a diverse team environment and communicate in non-technical terms to non-technical individuals.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, schedule and coordinate PM activities to production requirements across multiple manufacturing facilities.
  • Provide maintenance support for production and engineering activities to ensure optimum results.
  • Investigate maintenance-related problems, analyze root causes and drive resolutions.
  • Assure compliance with safety, quality and environmental requirements in work.
  • Manage all aspects of the sites and corporate CMMS.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED. Advanced degree / certification in technical and/or maintenance related discipline preferred.
  • At least five (5) years of senior industrial experience in facilities maintenance operations.
  • At least three (3) years maintenance and supervisory experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years maintenance planner / scheduler experience.
  • Working knowledge of chemical, pharmaceutical or food plant equipment (pumps, piping, heat exchangers, boilers, vessels, instrumentation, etc.).
  • Background in maintenance and repair of equipment to effectively plan daily maintenance department activities.
  • Experience managing across multiple sites; PHA and MOC experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of chemical, pharmaceutical or food manufacturing systems and processes.
  • Strong project management skills; experience supporting multiple sites preferred.
  • Minimum three (3) years MRO inventory management experience.
  • Track record of fiscal accountability, strategic planning and budget experience.
  • Technical knowledge: strong troubleshooting/diagnostic skills; experience in batch and continuous operations; knowledge of EPA and OSHA standards.
  • Six Sigma knowledge and training a plus.
  • Experience using CMMS; ERP experience preferred.
  • Stores/MRO management and inventory control experience.
Technical Knowledge
  • Strong troubleshooting/diagnostic skills.
  • Experience in both batch and continuous operations.
  • Knowledge of Federal/State EPA and OSHA compliance standards.
Work Skills and Abilities
  • Identifies and prioritizes multiple projects with focus on process improvement.
  • Analyzes and troubleshoots operational and equipment problems, with actionable recommendations.
  • Effective written and oral communication; can present complex situations concisely.
  • Interacts effectively with technical and hourly workforce; strong organizational, time-management and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to lead cross-functional teams.
  • Proficient computer skills including CMMS, MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to build partnerships across functional groups and lead a project; experience managing hourly workforce.
  • Must be able to obtain A/RPIC status per Health Canada Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment.
  • Must be able to respond to alarms and paging.
  • On-call availability on weekends/holidays; on-site during plant shutdowns, start-ups and commissioning as required.
  • Ability to work around industrial equipment, climb stairs/ladders, move about the plant and office; occasional bending, kneeling, crouching, twisting; up to 50% of the time stationary.
  • Ability to work at high elevations when necessary; occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
