Qualifications

Located in the town of Halton Hills we’re 15 minutes north of the 401, accessible by GO Train and bus, and within a 35km radius of major urban centres, such as Guelph, Milton, Brampton, Mississauga, Cambridge, and Orangeville.

Halton Hills Hydro is looking to fill the position of Line Sub-Foreperson in our Operations Department. The successful applicant will be an effective leader who is willing to take charge, show initiative and help our team move forward. This position reports directly to the Operations Manager.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated the following skills, characteristics and qualifications, which are essential to performing this position effectively:

  • Dedicated to maintaining a safe work environment for the protection of our employees and the general public;
  • Minimum 10 years Journeyperson (MEARIE/EDA) certification with experience in the power line trade;
  • Proven experience in power distribution line construction and line maintenance; Excellent working knowledge of overhead and underground distribution systems, work practices and equipment;
  • Proven interpersonal skills and practical experience effectively dealing with fellow co-workers, challenging customers and situations using tact and diplomacy;
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in a supervisor or leadership position focusing on areas of safety, teambuilding, training, efficiency and productivity;
  • A valid Ontario driver’s licence in good standing with Class ‘DZ’ (minimum);
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Utility Work Protection Code and Halton Hills Hydro’s Construction Verification Program.

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Effectively lead line crews involved in the construction and maintenance of both overhead and underground distribution systems, ensuring the safe and productive performance of the work;
  • Understand, practice and reinforce EUSA Safety Rules, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, ESA requirements for LDC distribution system construction (Ontario Regulation 22/04) and all other applicable legislation;
  • Participate in the training and ongoing mentoring of apprenticelinepersons;
  • Participate in regular on-call system.
