Job summary

A local municipality in the Niagara region is seeking seasonal Lifeguards and Instructors for the Thorold Community Pool. Successful candidates will ensure the safety of swimmers, enforce pool rules, and teach swimming techniques. You must possess current NLS and First Aid/CPR certifications and be available for the summer season. Shifts will include evenings and weekends. Competitive pay rates of $19.50 - $21.25 per hour based on position and experience.

Qualifications

  • NLS certification and First Aid/CPR 'C' certification required.
  • Experience with swimming instruction or lifeguarding preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with participants and parents.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor pool safety, enforce rules, and respond to emergencies.

  • Complete incident reports and maintain cleanliness of the facilities.

Primary Function – Lifeguards

To monitor the Thorold Community Pool to ensure the safety of swimmers, enforce safety rules, and respond quickly to emergencies, including performing rescues and providing first aid when necessary.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensure the overall safety of patrons using the facilities
  • Minimize and eliminate hazardous conditions in all areas
  • Enforce pool rules to maintain a safe environment for all swimmers
  • Perform rescues and administer proper first aid to treat injuries
  • Complete required incident reports
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the pool, change rooms, and surrounding areas
  • Oversee pool entrance, including admission standards, money handling, and record-keeping, while assisting the Customer Service Ambassador as needed
  • Ensure the facility remains safe, clean, and well-maintained at all times
Education/Experience
  • Current NLS certification
  • Current First Aid and CPR "C" certifications
  • High Five Principles of Healthy Childhood Development certification (considered an asset)
  • Clear Police Vulnerable Sector Screening check

Rate of pay: $19.50 - $20.25 per hour

Hours of Work: 12-25 hours, can be up to 44 hours per week. Hours variable: shifts include evenings, weekends and holidays.

Conditions of Employment

Successful candidates are expected to be available for the duration of the summer season and requests for time off outside of regularly scheduled days off will be limited. Other related duties can only be considered part of the job if they directly relate to the primary function contained herein.

Location: Thorold Community Pool (111 Richmond Street)

Primary Function – Instructors

To teach proper swimming techniques, improve participants' water skills, and ensure safety while fostering a positive learning experience at the Thorold Community Pool.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop safe and quality programs and lesson plans for swimming instruction for patrons of all abilities based on the Lifesaving Society program requirements
  • Lead group swimming lessons for patrons of all ages and abilities levels
  • Maintain accurate records of performance and attendance
  • Communicate with participants and parents/guardians on participant progress
  • All lifeguarding duties and responsibilities as advised in the Aquatic Lifeguard posting
Education/Experience
  • Current NLS certification
  • Current First Aid and CPR "C" certifications
  • High Five Principles of Healthy Childhood Development certification (considered an asset)
  • Clear Police Vulnerable Sector Screening check

Rate of pay: $20.50 - $21.25 per hour

Hours of Work: 25-40 hours, can be up to 44 hours per week. Hours variable: shifts include evenings, weekends and holidays.

Conditions of Employment
