Job Overview

The Life Enrichment Manager is responsible for consistently engaging residents in familiar routines of daily living through personalized Life Skills that create pleasant days. Life Skills are tasks residents enjoyed in the past that bring a sense of success, meaning, and purpose in the present. The Life Enrichment Manager designs Life Skills to reflect each resident’s past interests and provides encouragement, prompts, and hands-on assistance. The Life Enrichment Manager demonstrates the Sunrise Mission, To champion quality of life for all seniors, in the Reminiscence neighborhood in accordance with applicable laws, standards, Sunrise policies, and to promote high-quality care and services for our residents.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Essential Duties

As part of the Sunrise team, supporting our Mission, Principles of Service, and Core Values is fundamental. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following Life Skills Program, Resident Focus, Volunteer and Community Focus, Dining Service, Risk Management and General Safety, Quality Assurance and Regulatory Compliance, Training and Contributing to Team Success, and Core Competencies, as described below.

Life Skills Program
  • Evaluate resident’s interest and involvement in Life Skills.
  • Develop Life Skills tailored to each resident’s needs and abilities.
  • Engage residents in Life Skills throughout the day and evening.
  • Ensure every resident has an opportunity to engage in Life Skills or other enrichment activities daily.
  • Review resident profiles and ISP to determine the best Life Skill or activity for each resident, in conversation with residents and families.
  • Include Life Skills on demographic profiles and implement, lead, and motivate others in the appropriate Life Skill with the Reminiscence Coordinator (RC).
  • Organize small groups or clubs aligned with resident needs and preferences using demographic information.
  • Ensure Life Skill is included in the ISP’s socialization and leisure activities section.
  • Act as a role model and encourage team members to engage in Life Skills with residents.
  • Assist residents to and from Life Skills stations and other activities.
  • Record and document resident participation according to Sunrise standards.
  • Maintain and expand Life Skills stations and replenish supplies as needed.
  • Assist in maintaining an inventory of Life Skills programming supplies.
  • Assist residents with daily care of any animals and / or plants as part of the Life Skills program.
Resident Focus
  • Review, read, notate, and initial Daily Log and Department Log to document resident information and changes in physical / behavioral patterns and Life Skills data.
  • Review ISP, Resident Profile, Demographic Profile, and Addendums for every new resident.
  • Provide input to ensure each resident has a personalized Life Skill aligned with past interests and current abilities.
  • Practice positive resident relations per Sunrise values and direct feedback to the supervisor.
  • Assist RC to ensure each resident’s Memory Box is completed within two weeks of move-in.
  • Maintain and protect resident confidentiality.
Volunteer and Community Focus
  • Support local businesses, organizations, and schools in developing and retaining community volunteer programs under RC and Activities & Volunteer Coordinator (AVC) leadership.
  • Assist with volunteer orientations, training programs, and required paperwork per Sunrise standards.
Dining Service
  • Serve meals in the dining room.
  • Assist residents with Life Skills in the dining room during setup and cleanup.
Risk Management and General Safety
  • Work with the community team to ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations, promote risk management, and follow safety policies.
  • Follow safety procedures at all times, including PPE, fire safety, SDS, and lockout / tagout procedures.
  • Report all accidents / incidents immediately and report hazards promptly.
  • Keep cords, carts, equipment, and other hazards out of walkways and exits, in compliance with fire codes.
Quality Assurance and Regulatory Compliance
  • Understand and participate in the Quality Service Review (QSR) process and standards for enriching resident-centered activities.
  • Ensure adherence to federal, state / provincial, and local laws and Sunrise quality standards for resident care and services.
  • Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, proper attire, and health standards.
Training and Team Success
  • Participate as a team member and work toward team goals.
  • Model Sunrise Credo and Principles of Service in daily interactions.
  • Contribute to engagement programs and participate in team engagement surveys and improvement planning.
  • Attend regular meetings and maintain required training to meet Sunrise standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience and Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, each essential duty must be performed satisfactorily. The listed requirements represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed.

  • One (1) year experience with memory-impaired seniors
  • High School diploma or GED; certifications may be required per regulations
  • Ability to lead the life enrichment component of the Reminiscence program and tailor Life Skills to residents’ preferences, abilities, and needs
  • Knowledge of adapting Life Skills to cognitive and functional abilities to motivate residents
  • Ability to inspire and motivate volunteers and team members to engage residents
  • Proficiency in computer skills, Microsoft Office, and Sunrise applications; ability to learn new software
  • If applicable, drivers for Sunrise vehicles must sign the Driver job description and comply with safety requirements
