Job description

Reporting to a Partner and/or an Associate of the Firm, the Senior Legal Assistant is responsible for providing support to the Partners and Associates, involving accurate, timely, efficient, and effective paralegal services to the lawyers.

Specific Accountabilities :

Key Responsibility 1 : Senior Legal Assistant Responsibilities

  1. Perform all aspects of case, matter, calendar, and document management for the lawyer required.
  2. Liaise with lawyers on projects and electronic discovery files.
  3. Interact with outside entities (e.g., courts, government agencies, vendors, and other law firms).
  4. Responsible for contacting and interacting with clients.
  5. Collect and analyze documentation to determine privilege and relevance.
  6. Maintain a diary system for the lawyer.
  7. Create and edit documents, including letters and other correspondence.
  8. Conduct document management within an electronic database.
  9. Draft various court and legal documents as required.
  10. Create and maintain detailed management of documents.
  11. Meet firm and department expectations of billing practices and targets.
  12. Review transcripts and maintain statuses with respect to undertakings.
  13. Mentor other legal assistants and provide guidance where needed.
  14. Perform general administrative tasks, including office and file management.
  15. Perform other tasks as required.

Qualifications and Education Requirements :

  • Post-secondary education from a recognized Paralegal program.
  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant experience.
  • Strong ability to adapt to various working styles.
  • Excellent interpersonal, relationship-building, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work and multi-task.
