Job Description
WHAT'S THE JOB?

The Lead Housekeeper/Laundry Attendant oversees the housekeeping operations in a 160-man remote exploration camp. This role ensures a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for all camp residents and staff. The Lead Housekeeper/Laundry Attendant will manage a team of housekeepers and janitors, coordinate daily tasks, and maintain high cleanliness and safety standards.

The position involves a remote work lifestyle in a camp setting with the following amenities:
  • All meals and accommodations are provided
  • Travel is provided to and from the site location from Edmonton, AB
  • Private room with cable television
  • Access to Wi‑Fi
  • Access to laundry facilities and detergents
  • Access to a gym and common areas
Working Conditions:
  • Remote camp environment with extended periods away from home (3weeks on/3weeks off)
  • Cabin/arctic tent accommodations with shared washroom facilities
  • Extreme weather conditions are common in Nunavut
  • Extended periods of darkness/no sunshine this time of year
Key responsibilities include:
  • Daily operations: conduct daily toolbox meetings to discuss tasks and safety; implement and enforce housekeeping and janitorial maintenance policies and procedures; perform daily and weekly housekeeping and janitorial audits
  • Staff management: assist intraining and supervising a housekeeping team of up to 10 employees; recommend promotions, transfers, and dismissals to management; training staff on safe work practices, equipment operations, and emergency procedures
  • Inventory and supplies: manage inventory of cleaning supplies and place orders as required; assist with monthly inventory counts in the housekeeping department
  • Safety and compliance: attend all required health and safety training sessions; report and address and safety concerns; ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, OHSA, and company policies; investigate incidents, injuries, and near misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions
  • Communication: maintain daily communication with the Lodge Manager and the FrontDesk Attendantregarding room discrepancies; foster a positive and cooperative work environment
Qualifications
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
  • Minimum of 2 years experience supervising is required
  • 5+ years housekeeping experience working in a remote camp setting is required
  • Valid Drivers License is required
  • Familiarity with progressive discipline and other HR related matters
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other relevant software
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions typical of Nunavut (i.e.: extreme cold weather, 24 hour darkness during the winter months, etc.)
  • Must have valid government issued photo ID for travel to site
  • Ability to handle the following physical demands:
    • Lift, carry, push or pull up to 50 lbs
    • Climb ladders or stairs
    • Stand, walk, squat, kneel or sit according to task for extended periods of time
    • Perform repetitive hand work requiring full use of both hands
    • Perform work with arms at full length
    • Work with arms above shoulder height

Work schedule and remuneration:

Lead Housekeeper/Laundry Attendants work on a rotational schedule of 3 weeks on/3 weeks off. Site location is in remote setting in Nunavut, requiring air travel to site from the Edmonton airport. You may be required to work nights, weekdays, weekends, and general holidays. Wages are paid on an hourly basis with a starting rate of $23.00 per hour.
