Job Summary:
The primary role of the Lead Development Miner is to be proficient in all areas of development mining tasks, is able to complete them efficiently with little to no supervision and to guide the less experienced miners.
Responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Identify and rectify unsafe conditions in underground headings
- Scale back and walls as required to make the workplace safe
- Drill and install resin rebar ground support using Sandvik jumbos and MacLean bolters (not a necessity)
- Install and maintain mines services such as fans, vent tubing and pipes and cables
- Operate large mobile equipment such as MacLean loaders and Sandvik trucks
- Receive instructions or directives from Shift Supervisor and coordinate activities of the development crew
- Record field measurements and provide shift end report to supervisor and cross shift
- Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform his duties in a safe and efficient manner
- The duties and responsibilities listed above are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive
- Capture field measurements using MOSS (Miner Operated Survey System)
- Align Sandvik 422i jumbo drill on line and on grade and drill to the engineered dimensions
- Load and prime development rounds with bulk emulsion and electronic detonators following engineering designs
- Install resin rebar using mechanized bolting equipment (not a necessity)
Health and Safety:
- Having the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment
- Following Redpath Canada Limited health and safety standards and systems, including the Five Point Safety System and the Cardinal Rules, and reporting any unsafe acts or conditions
- Responsible to ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment required in the performance of the work.
- Must have knowledge of the WHMIS legislation and know how to effectively use an MSDS sheet.
- Comply with the Act and Mining Regulations that apply to the work area.
Qualifications
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
Work Experience:
- 5 years or more experience as a miner
Knowledge Required
- Demonstrated ability to read mine plans and specifications for underground mining.
- Ability to multi task and work effectively
- Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently
