A health service organization in the Town of Manning, Alberta, seeks a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) I to process and analyze diagnostic samples. Applicants must have completed an accredited MLT program and be eligible for registration. The role requires flexibility for various shifts, effective patient interaction, and experience with laboratory equipment such as Sysmex and Vitros. Competitive pay and a Remote Retention Allowance of up to $3,000 annually are offered.
Your Opportunity: Located approximately 96 km northwest of Peace River and situated in the valley of the Notikewin River, lies the Town of Manning. With a population of 1256, this thriving community has a fire hall, RCMP detachment, mayor, and a 44-bed senior citizen’s lodge. Called the Land of the Mighty Moose, Manning is one of the newest towns in the North, located on beautiful riverbanks. Manning has its hospital, built in 2003, with 10 acute care beds and 16 continuing care beds. Several annual events attract others from the surrounding areas. There is also a popular skill hill for skiing, snowboarding, racing, and ski jumping. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, we have a Remote Retention Allowance in place for an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.
As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) I, you will be responsible for the daily processing, testing, results analysis and reporting of diagnostic samples within the laboratory department. You will perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures in the processing of specimens used in diagnosis, treatment and research.
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).
The successful candidate should have the ability to work various shifts including days/weekends and take calls by responding within 30 minutes. An ability to work well with patients and all members of the healthcare team. Entering, reviewing, reporting, and distributing patient results in an accurate, complete, timely, and efficient manner. Operation, calibration, and performance of basic troubleshooting with selected instrumentation and reporting equipment malfunction. Performing all required Quality Control procedures and maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.
Core Laboratory experience in Phlebotomy, Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation and Urinalysis is preferred. Familiarity with the Sysmex XS1000i, Vitros XT3400, IStat, Clinitek Advantus, ACL Elite Pro is favorable.
