A regional health services provider is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant for a multi-site position in Claresholm and Nanton, Alberta. The successful candidate will provide high-quality laboratory services, including specimen handling and reporting results. Required qualifications include completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program and recent clinical laboratory experience. This role demands proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and adherence to safety practices. Competitive salary ranging from $23.72 to $29.56 per hour with temporary part-time benefits is offered.
This position is a multi-site position, split between Claresholm Hospital Lab (0.5) and Nanton Patient Collection Center (0.4), in Southern Alberta. Claresholm has the amenities of a larger urban centre, with the warmth and sincerity of a down-to-earth community. Nanton Community Health Centre is operated by AHS and offers a range of Health Services to the community of Nanton, including Family Medicine, Outpatient Health services, Public Health and others. We are actively seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant with experience and knowledge of policies and procedures to join our dynamic team in providing the highest level of service to our clients. As a member of the interdisciplinary team this position is responsible for working all shifts as assigned by the site Senior Technologist. Specifically this position collects specimens, performs sample handling and manipulation and reports results within the scope of practice of a Medical Laboratory Assistant. Reporting directly to the on-site Senior Technologists and the Regional Supervisor, the MLA will be responsible for providing exemplary patient care by applying the regional policies and procedures. The scope of practice is a continuum ranging from basic to highly complex procedures and activities within the laboratory department. Employees shall maintain confidentiality of all APL information in accordance with HIA, FOIP and other privacy legislation in effect and shall comply at all times with APL’s information privacy and information security policies.
As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
Experience within the last year or recent training within 3 years in clinical laboratory required. Proven ability to work within a computer-based environment using Microsoft office suite including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and SharePoint. Knowledge of medical Laboratory Safety Practices.
Connect Care Epic training including Medical Laboratory Assistant with Result Entry. 2 years of experience as an MLA within a rural facility is preferred.
