About the role

Position: Temporary full-time Laboratory Assistant - Diagnostic Services

Work with the Testing team to support Canadian Blood Services by performing routine and extensive testing to ensure a safe and secure blood supply. This role contributes to the delivery of products, processes, and services that provide life-saving treatments for Canadians.

Formula for success
  • Accession patient samples for testing, pack blood components for delivery, and receive stock and returned components into inventory; determine if returned components are acceptable for re-distribution.
  • Prepare phosphate buffered saline (PBS) for use on automation and perform reagent lot release.
  • Collaborate to ensure the safety and quality of blood products, testing integrity, and a safe environment for equipment operators.

Desired education and skills

  • Completion of secondary education and minimum 1 year of laboratory work experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. A post-secondary background in science is preferred. A certificate in a Medical Laboratory Assistant program would be considered an asset.
  • Technical skills including MS Office and the ability to learn systems and programs as required.
  • Good oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions precisely, prepare and maintain accurate records, and carry out repetitive tasks.
  • Experience in food processing, pharmaceutical, or biologics manufacturing is a strong asset.

  • Shifts/hours – must be flexible to accommodate assigned shifts based on operational needs. Shifts include days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and statutory holidays when required.
  • Physical requirements: ability to lift up to 10 kg (22 lbs).
