Qualifications

  • Exposure to the marine field through academic study or work experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of maritime combat capabilities is a plus.

Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION Are you passionate about cutting‑edge naval technology and eager to contribute to Canada’s next‑generation warships? Join our team as a Junior Combat Systems Engineer and play a key role in delivering advanced combat capabilities for the River Class Destroyer (RCD) program. As part of the Combat Systems Team, you’ll help ensure that the systems deployed on RCD ships are designed, integrated, tested, and accredited to meet the operational needs of the Royal Canadian Navy. This is an exciting opportunity to work on complex, mission‑critical systems in a collaborative environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support the Combat Systems team in providing technical and programmatic oversight of combat systems activities.
  • Manage planned and emergent work within your assigned scope.
  • Identify risks and develop mitigation strategies for combat systems capability areas.
  • Evaluate requirements and performance capabilities of combat systems.
  • Coordinate scheduling, planning, and execution of systems activities to meet program milestones.
  • Review technical products and deliverables from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with working groups to develop operational solutions for RCD.
  • Manage inputs from subcontractors and the Royal Canadian Navy to ensure system compliance.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education: Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (B.Eng.) or equivalent.
  • Experience: Exposure to or interest in the marine field through work experience (e.g., co‑op) or academic study.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with maritime combat capabilities such as:
    • Above Water Weapons & Sensors
    • Command and Control
    • Underwater Warfare
    • Electronic Warfare
    • Navigation
    • Communications

Due to the nature of work Irving Shipbuilding does, all successful applicants must meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
