Job description

Canada North Environmental Services (CanNorth) is a private environmental consulting firm that has been in business for over 20 years and has built a reputation as a reliable and reputable environmental services provider. Our experienced, interdisciplinary team uses technical skills and knowledge to protect the environment, satisfy regulatory requirements, and support local communities.

CanNorth regularly completes HRIAs and HRIA-Ms for resource developments in the oil and gas, mining, roads and infrastructure, and forestry sectors. We are currently looking to hire a Junior Archaeologist to support our Heritage Division. This contract position will begin April 13th, 2025, and end October 17th, 2025, with the possibility of extension depending on workload and fall weather conditions.

Responsibilities:
  • Conducting archaeological fieldwork under the supervision of an experienced archaeologist, including surface survey (walking), shovel testing, and excavating.
  • Supporting archaeologists and providing assistance where needed.
  • Laboratory duties such as artifact cleaning, analysis, and cataloging.
  • Other office duties.
  • Helping in the warehouse with equipment, maintenance, mobilizing/demobilizing trucks (when needed).
Requirements:
  • Pursuing or recently completed a university degree (undergraduate or graduate) in archaeology or anthropology (or other associated discipline).
  • Minimum 4 months of archaeological field experience (or the successful completion of a recognized archaeological field school).
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to complete field work and travel (may include remote or isolated areas) with overnight stays for multiple days during out-of-town projects.
  • Must enjoy working outdoors and be willing to work in adverse weather and challenging field conditions.
