Job description

Samaritan's Purse Canada is seeking a Community Recovery Specialist to work in Jasper, AB. As a Community Recovery Specialist, you will contribute to the long-term community recovery following disasters by establishing and strengthening connections between community members, social supports, government, and churches.

The successful candidate will have a post-secondary degree or diploma in emergency management, social work, ministry, or a related field, and 2-3 years of experience in emergency management, humanitarian aid, social work, or first response. You will be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and able to work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Functions as a convener of local and external support providers as well as local churches to support a collaborative approach to recovery
  • Develops and implements a community entry strategy to gain knowledge of local community context
  • Directs affected individuals to most appropriate agencies or organizations in the area where they may find assistance
  • Provides individual case management support for local and external organizations
  • Maintains relationships with community members, communicating progress and supporting them through the recovery process
