Join the City of Medicine Hat as an IT Support Technician
Temporary, Full time, On Site (Up to 12-Months)

As an IT Support Technician with the City, you'll be part of the team that provides front-line Service Desk support, computer and printer setup, and day-to-day troubleshooting for staff across the organization. Our ideal candidate brings working knowledge of computer devices, networks, and operating systems (including Windows, Active Directory, and M365), along with strong communication and customer service skills. Your key responsibilities
  • Provide first- and second-level technical support to City staff for computer hardware, software, printers, mobile devices, and network connectivity issues.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve technical incidents and service requests in a timely manner.
  • Install, configure, and maintain desktop and laptop computers, peripheral equipment, and software applications.
  • Support the setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of mobile devices (phones, tablets, etc.).
  • Perform routine system administration tasks such as user account management, password resets, and permissions updates.
  • Assist with the deployment of hardware and software upgrades, patches, and security updates.
  • Document support activities, solutions, and asset information in the service desk system.
  • Provide training and guidance to end users on the proper use of hardware, software, and IT systems.
  • Maintain awareness of IT policies, standards, and best practices, and ensure compliance in daily work.
  • Support IT projects and initiatives as assigned.
What you bring
  • Strong technical knowledge of computer hardware, operating systems, and software applications.
  • Knowledge of network protocols, connectivity troubleshooting, and system administration fundamentals.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve a wide variety of technical problems in a professional and customer-focused manner.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical information in clear, simple terms.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality, security, and compliance with IT policies.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office applications, and Active Directory.
  • Experience supporting mobile devices, printers, and peripheral hardware.
Qualifications
  • Two (2) Year Diploma in computer technology or a related field from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • Minimum of 2 years\' related work experience in a technical support position.
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's License with an acceptable driving record.
  • An equivalent combination of management-approved education and experience may be considered.
