Job description
POSITION SUMMARY

The Network Administrator II supports all functional areas of the organization in alignment with the plant business objectives. Under direct supervision, this position assists with routine IT operations, problem resolution of computing and/or communications functions and ensuring the cyber security of information systems. This role is to ensure the stable operation of the computer networks. This includes assisting in planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all network hardware, software, and communication lines. This role will also analyze and resolve end‑user hardware and software computer problems in a timely and accurate fashion and provide end‑user training where required. Serves as the primary help desk contact for the plant responsible for computer hardware/software, including inventory and replacement. They generally will work out of the Wheatland plant. This position will provide both remote support and on‑site support as required for Surrey, Port Kells, Winnipeg, Aldergrove (IBP), and Edmonton (IBP) plants. The incumbent will build relationships with plant management and the direct Regional IT Lead as their supervisor. The incumbent will serve as a liaison between Corporate IT and manufacturing facilities and will ensure that plant IT initiatives align with USG IT standards and priorities. The unique combination of skills associated with this position as well as on‑the‑job training will provide for growth and potential advancement within the IT organization.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Travel is required to CGC Surrey, Port Kells, Winnipeg facilities and IBP facilities located in Aldergrove and Edmonton
  • Assist with computer hardware repairs and installation of approved software on PCs
  • Provide help desk, analytical and technical support by performing maintenance, expanding functionality, and improving performance of hardware and software tools used
  • Provide computer/network equipment asset inventory through data entry and maintenance of assets including equipment installation, disposal, processing, and tracking
  • Assist in the implantation of IT and cyber security policies, procedures, standards and system documentation development and maintenance
  • Assist on various special projects and tasks as well as coordinating meetings
  • Perform media and equipment scans
  • Administer and maintain end‑user accounts, permissions, and access rights
  • Assist with network design, refreshes, and capacity planning
  • Installs, configures, and maintains network cabling and other network equipment such as switches and UPS
  • Oversees installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of network‑connected end‑user hardware, software, and peripheral devices
  • Assists Regional IT Lead with maintenance of VOIP phone system
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field preferred or significant work experience and certifications
Experience/Requirements
  • Five – ten years in IT support or similar capacity and able to support: Windows, Desktop, Networking, Data/Voice
  • Requires an advanced proficiency in the operation of local and wide‑area networks and components
  • Must be able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Must be proficient with current Microsoft Servers and Client operating systems
  • Travel demand will fluctuate depending on plant demands. Expected between 10‑20%
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to build relationships and work collaboratively; strong customer service skills
  • Must be self‑directed and able to work independently
  • Proven project management skills
  • Able to learn new technology as needed to meet the requirements of the position
  • Must be willing to physically work at plant location
Certifications Preferred
  • A+ PC Technician
  • Network+ PC Technician
  • Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS)
  • Microsoft Certified IT Professional - Server Administrator (MCITP)

Rate of pay may be adjusted based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
