The IT Manager leads the strategic planning, governance, and operational oversight of all technology systems across Spirit of Math Schools Inc. and Releasing the Genius (RTG). This role is accountable for ensuring that infrastructure, platforms, applications, and security controls are reliable, scalable, and aligned with organizational goals across corporate and franchise environments.

The role encompasses end-to-end ownership of enterprise systems, including IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, the Student Information System (SIS), and the RTG platform. The Manager operates within a hybrid delivery model, directly leading internal IT and development resources while governing a Managed Service Provider (MSP) responsible for frontline support and security operations. Success in this role requires strong leadership, vendor accountability, system architecture oversight, and the ability to translate organizational needs into sustainable technical solutions.

Reporting Relationship

Reports directly to the Vice President, Corporate Services.

Education & Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related field
  • Relevant professional certifications are an asset (e.g., Microsoft, CompTIA, ITIL, CISSP, CISM)

Decision-Making Authority

  • Plans and executes technology initiatives with multi-year horizons (2–3 years)
  • Makes operational and technical decisions within approved budgets and policies
  • Recommends strategic investments, risk mitigations, and outsourcing models to senior leadership

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • 5–7+ years of progressive IT experience, including 3+ years in a leadership or management role
  • Strong expertise in:
    • Microsoft 365 (SharePoint, Teams, Exchange, OneDrive, security & compliance)
    • Identity and access management
    • Endpoint, device, and systems administration
    • Network and infrastructure fundamentals
  • Experience supporting distributed, franchise-based, or multi-campus environments
  • Demonstrated understanding of:
    • Remote support and decentralized operations
    • Permissions governance and role-based access
    • Standardization across multiple locations
  • Proven experience managing and governing Managed Service Providers (MSPs), including:
    • Defining scope of work and service boundaries
    • Monitoring SLAs and KPIs
    • Escalation management and vendor accountability
  • Experience leading and managing development teams, including internal developers and external contractors
  • Strong understanding of system and application lifecycle management, including requirements gathering, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance
  • Experience overseeing business-critical platforms such as Student Information Systems, learning platforms, or enterprise applications
  • Strong cybersecurity awareness, including risk assessment, incident response coordination, and security awareness programs
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and prioritization skills

Key Responsibilities

Technology Leadership & Governance

  • Provide overall leadership and direction for IT infrastructure, enterprise systems, and internally developed platforms
  • Lead internal IT and development staff, ensuring clarity of roles, priorities, accountability, and professional growth
  • Establish effective governance across infrastructure, systems, development, and vendor-managed services

Systems & Development Management (RTG & SIS)

  • Provide technical and managerial oversight for the Releasing the Genius (RTG) platform and the Student Information System (SIS)
  • Manage internal developers and external development partners, including prioritization, performance oversight, and delivery timelines
  • Own the system roadmaps for RTG and SIS, balancing feature development, operational stability, scalability, and security
  • Translate academic, operational, and business requirements into clear technical direction
  • Oversee integrations between RTG, SIS, Microsoft 365, CRM systems, and other enterprise platforms
  • Ensure development practices align with organizational standards for security, documentation, maintainability, and data protection
  • Coordinate testing, release management, and deployment activities to minimize disruption

Managed Service Provider (MSP) Oversight

  • Act as the primary owner of the MSP relationship, including onboarding, governance, and performance management
  • Define and enforce clear operational boundaries between MSP responsibilities, internal IT operations, and development teams
  • Monitor MSP performance against SLAs, KPIs, and security obligations
  • Lead escalation and resolution of complex or high-impact incidents involving infrastructure, systems, or security
  • Regularly review MSP scope, effectiveness, and cost-efficiency; recommend changes as needed
  • Ensure consistent, secure, and reliable technology services across all corporate-owned and franchise campuses
  • Maintain and enforce IT standards for hardware, networking, access controls, and collaboration tools
  • Ensure RTG and SIS platforms are properly supported, documented, and aligned with organizational needs

IT Strategy, Architecture & Planning

  • Develop and execute IT and systems strategies aligned with organizational growth and instructional delivery
  • Lead long-term planning for infrastructure, platforms, and internally developed systems
  • Evaluate architectural decisions to ensure scalability, security, resilience, and sustainability

Project & Change Management

  • Lead cross-functional IT and systems projects from initiation to completion
  • Coordinate internal teams, MSP resources, vendors, and stakeholders
  • Manage budgets, timelines, risks, and communications for technology initiatives

Security, Risk & Compliance Oversight

  • Ensure infrastructure and internally developed systems meet cybersecurity and data protection requirements
  • Coordinate security reviews, access controls, and incident response activities
  • Ensure systems follow secure-by-design principles and support audit and compliance readiness

Privacy & Data Protection Oversight

  • Provide operational leadership for privacy and data protection across all IT systems, platforms, and infrastructure
  • Ensure that RTG, SIS, and enterprise systems are designed and maintained in alignment with applicable privacy legislation and organizational policies
  • Implement and enforce technical controls related to data access, retention, encryption, and monitoring
  • Coordinate privacy incident response, investigation, and remediation in collaboration with executive leadership, HR, and legal advisors
  • Ensure third-party vendors, MSPs, and development partners adhere to organizational privacy and data protection requirements
  • Support privacy impact assessments and audit readiness as required
  • Evaluate, select, and manage technology vendors, development partners, and service providers
  • Ensure documentation exists for infrastructure, systems, integrations, and custom development
  • Provide regular reporting to senior leadership on:
    • System performance and risks
    • Security posture
    • Project and development progress

Authorities

The Manager of Information Technology and Systems Development is authorized to:

  • Lead, supervise, and develop IT and systems development staff
  • Direct and prioritize the work of internal and external systems and development resources
  • Govern and direct MSP operations within approved scope and contracts
  • Oversee and prioritize all IT operations, infrastructure, systems, and support services
  • Approve and manage IT ticket workflows, escalation paths, and resolution standards
  • Select and manage IT vendors and service providers within approved budgets
  • Make technical decisions regarding system upgrades, architecture, security controls, and infrastructure investments
  • Define, document, and enforce IT policies, cybersecurity protocols, and disaster recovery readiness
  • Recommend and lead cross-departmental technology initiatives and process improvements
  • Enforce technical and system-level privacy controls and data protection standards across all platforms and vendors
