Your Role
  • Working on commercial and industrial projects in both field and laboratory environments.
  • Performing field and laboratory testing of soil, aggregates, Portland cement, asphalt, and concrete including sieve analysis, density testing using nuclear density gauges, preparation of Proctors and Marshall molds, asphalt cement content, sand equivalents, Atterberg limits and moisture content, including evaluation and reporting of properties and characteristics.
  • Assisting in the daily operations of the laboratory and performing testing and reporting required for quality assurance/control of material testing.
  • Monitoring and analysing test information to aid in maintaining equipment operating consistency.
  • Working to achieve results within conformance of test specifications.
  • Coordinating job‑specific testing requirements with third‑party testing firms.
  • Ensuring all lab testing, reporting, and procedures are in accordance with company program requirements and training.
  • Supporting senior technologists and engineers in planning and executing material testing programs.
  • Collaborating with project managers to meet deadlines and deliverables.
  • Providing technical oversight during construction activities, ensuring proper material usage and placement.
  • Conducting site inspections to verify compliance with project specifications.
  • Conducting activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursuing continuous professional development and maintaining a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Working in a safe manner at all times and reporting all health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Performing additional duties as required.
Qualifications
  • 5 years of materials testing or related construction experience.
  • Diploma from a technical institute in Civil Engineering, Civil Technology, or equivalent work experience.
  • Industry experience in quality assurance/control for field and laboratory testing, preferably in the consulting sector.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
  • Strong people skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Good time‑management skills, the ability to work with minimal supervision, and a team‑player attitude.
  • Experience dealing with contractors and municipal design consultants is beneficial.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license and provide a current driver’s abstract when applying; preference will be given to candidates with a clean driving record.
  • Physically capable of performing the manual‑labour duties required, including carrying and lifting heavy materials.
