WSP Canada is currently looking for a Hydrotechnical Engineer, Hydro & Dams to join our National Hydraulic Team, located in Calgary and Yellowknife. This position sits within the Hydro & Dams market sector of the Power Division. This market sector specializes in hydroelectric and dam projects (development, rehabilitation) as well as dam safety. We work in collaboration with public and private sector clients on innovative projects that allow our team members to prove their expertise and to train a new generation of passionate people.

What you can expect to do here
  • Work on different hydrotechnical projects such as dam safety review, hydropower, flood mapping, bank stabilization, fish ladder, ice and bridge hydraulic studies
  • Conduct hydrological analysis (PMF study, flood frequency analysis, hydrological modelling)
  • Conduct various hydrotechnical analyses for different projects
  • Perform hydraulic and hydrological modelling (HEC-RAS 1D/2D, Telemac 2D, Flow 3D, HEC-HMS, HYFRAN, RAVEN, etc.)
  • Plan and participate in bathymetric surveys
  • Participate in the design of plans, specifications, reports and other technical documents for river engineering, dams and hydroelectric projects
  • Coordinate with relevant regulatory authorities and utilities
  • Work on proposals and take part in our business development efforts
  • Assist project managers in the planning, control and technical coordination of projects
  • Supervise engineering resources, including technicians and other engineers
  • Liaise closely with established technical teams to coordinate engineering work
  • Ensure quality assurance of various deliverables
What you’ll bring to WSP
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering with a hydrotechnical/river engineering background, or any other education deemed equivalent
  • Engineer member of a professional order in a province in Canada
  • Six (6) years or more of relevant experience in the field
  • Design experience of hydraulic structures (dams, weirs, bank protection, etc)
  • Sense of initiative, proactivity, resourcefulness, autonomy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Communication proficiency – written, verbal, presentation
  • Experience and expertise in hydrological and hydrotechnical studies
  • Bilingualism (French/English) is an asset
